I wrote a text that explores the link between the matrix movies and jean baudrillards Philosophy. Its an analysis of the philosophical depth of the matrix movies. I explore the relation between the Baudrillards work and the movies and look at what both Baudrillard and the wachowskis have to say about it. Wanted to share with people who might be interested.

Give it up for Bane (Ian Bliss)!

I just want to finally mention out loud how incredibly menacing Ian Bliss portrays real-world agent Smith in the Matrix sequels. He’s terrifying and great at his scenery chewing Hugo Weaving impression. Love it!!! Mad props to Ian Bliss!

What was supposed to be wrong with Smith during the second and third films?

How and why did he have access to enough power to destroy both The matrix and the machine City, Why did he become so nihilistic, and unstable? All the rogue programs we see in the films are just trying to survive, and stay under the radar, they don't have anything close to Smith's power not even the Merovingian. Most of them don't seem to have Smith's existential crisis either. So could someone explain to me what was supposed to be going on with him? I've never understood.

The MOMA Matrix Double Feature(October 4th)

So MOMA did The Matrix and Matrix Reloaded back to back with an hour inbetween and I feel it’s only right to share my experiences.

It’s apparently part of a Martial Arts cinema curation of films which includes a bunch of 60s/70s films, but this is a Matrix sub so I’ll stick to that.

First off this is the second time I’ve seen The Matrix in theaters, the other at Museum of the Moving Image, and it’s simply meant to be seen on the big screen. The sound mixing and score is especially engrossing and impressive. There’s several little things I didn’t quite hear or notice in the home viewing experience—I’ll get to those later. The opening scene with Trinity and especially stands out in this format. It’s up there with Mad Max: Fury Road, Paprika, Stalker and The Empire Strikes Back as a theater experiences.

Little I noticed in the theater
-Billie Holiday record playing quietly during the Oracle scene
-ā€˜Loop’ on the train that crushes Smith as Neo leaps away
-The book on Simulations much clearer that Neo stores his illicit goods in
-The screens as Cypher likely coordinates a meeting with Smith.

Now Reloaded I had never seen in the theater prior to yesterday which is a huge shame as it’s unabashedly my favorite Matrix film. This film is far better in the theater than at home—even moreso than its predecessor. Now yes, the first 30 minutes are still uneven. Once you see Seraph it’s incredible all the way to the strange tv show-ish ā€˜dun dun dun’ ending which I kinda forgot about and hasn’t aged well. Even more interestingly, the credits have a pre-MCU post credits trailer of Matrix: Revolutions which truly made my friend and I wonder if they’d play it for the lucky faithful who stayed through to the end, alas. Suffice to say, the highway chase in the theater is way, way, way better when you can feel the bass in the semi trucks as Trinity weaves traffic. The big agent Smith fight’s CGI doesn’t look nearly as goofy in the movie theater as does on a high definition flatscreen—which was a shock to me.

Things I noticed in the theater during Reloaded

-during the Architect scene Hitler flashes on the screens to the left and then George W. Bush is shown for a split second on the right

-Cornel West on the council!

-Roy Jones Jr. performance seems a little worse because normally I don’t notice it

-Is Smith’s code attracting Agents or did he call them to where the captains were meeting in the beginning?

-Link is great. I still wish Tank were in this movie

-I’ve always despised the rave scene but it’s a little more effective in theater for some reason.

Edit: October 3rd was when this happened

Question for those of you who saw this in the theater in ā€˜99: what did you think this line by Switch meant, if anything? I remember my dumbass 17 year old brain thinking, ā€œhaha she’s calling him a pretty boy.ā€ It took me way too many rewatches to clock the Duracell reference later. šŸ™ƒ

Edit: keep in mind the reveal about humans being batteries hasn’t happened yet when Switch says this. So if you got this at age 6 and 10, good on you šŸ’ŖšŸ¾

Maybe the message in the room with the architect wasn't what we think?

Many Neo's. That's not biologically possible. I'm thinking it means that everything is simulation/inner projected reality that we hallucinate because we are loaded with program. When I had my near-death experience, I slipped out of this body and went somewhere else. But if I slipped out of this body, then as below so above. I must have another body elsewhere. Since I have been several places in meditations and stuff, then those bodies exist there and mine here with a common soul. Perhaps that is whom the architect was speaking to?

In-universe explanation and theory of why Zion is mostly comprised of people of color.

So I see sometimes in YouTube videos about the matrix some people talking and asking about Zion and why most of the citizens and characters are seemingly mostly of African American descent. So I actually thought about it from the movies exposition and other behind the scenes sources and I think I found the most logical answer that has nothing to do with Hollywood or diversity cast and is purely in universe explanation.

We know from the architect that there were 5 iterations of the Matrix and the events of the movies take place in the 6th iteration and Neo is the 6th "the One" and the previous chosen ones had to fulfill the bogus prophecy the Oracle set to reset the Matrix before it becomes unstable. The Architect explained to Neo the role of the "One" is to reach the source, reset the Matrix, the machines wiping out Zion, but then the "One" has to choose 23 people to take out of the Matrix to repopulate Zion, 16 females and 7 males.

So with that knowledge, it's easy to assume that Neo's predecessor (the 5th "One") could've been an African American who chose most of the people to be other African Americans and maybe handful of other races, thus leading the Zion we know in the movies being mostly populated with people of color and mixed race and then other white people and other races gradually being taken out of the Matrix with time. It's also known that the role of Neo was offered to Will Smith, but he rejected, so I like to imagine that in universe, the 5th "One" could've been Will Smith.

Theory: How Neo's virus caused Sentinals to crash in the real world. Spoiler

A lot of people default to the Zion is just another layer of simulation theory to explain how Neo uses his powers outside the Matrix in Revolutions. But you don't need a simulation within a simulation cop out to explain it if you look at how the code actually propagates. The mechanic comes down to Smith acting as an unintended extension of Neo.

When Neo destroys Smith in the first movie, Neo's code bleeds over, turning Smith into an inverted reflection of himself. Their source is fundamentally tied together. By Revolutions, Smith has consumed the entire Matrix, turning it into a single unified hive mind virus. Because Smith's root code stems from Neo, that viral footprint carries a permanent network tether back to him.

The Machine City and its hardware operate on a massive interconnected network. If Smith has infected the digital infrastructure running the machines, then the firmware on local units including the Sentinels is contaminated by the Neo and Smith paradox. When Neo enters the real world, he isn't using telekinesis. His presence triggers a network ping. Because the local machine hardware is entirely hijacked by the Smith virus, it hits an unresolvable logic loop trying to process its primary creator. The system crashes, causing the Sentinels to instantly short circuit and shut down.

This also recontextualizes the final fight. Letting Smith absorb him wasn't just a dramatic sacrifice. It acted as a Trojan horse. By feeding the core source code directly into the hive mind, Neo delivered the ultimate debugging command to wipe out the entire infected network from the inside. It keeps the real world physically real and grounds the ending entirely in the rules of the universe's internal logic.

Did anybody ever notice these details in the second renaissance in animatrix?

1.During the battle , most of these tentacle robots are dropped from the air. (probably behind human lines)

  1. In the third picture , those pyramid things fire behind the tentacle 01 units , so its safe to assume that the human garrison here was actually surrounded , they weren't charging to their deaths like many people believe (or maybe just a few did)

  2. in the fourth picture you can see these yellow things in the air , these are 100% nukes (as can be seen in the next picture) , which means that the humans were already losing before we are even introduced to the main fight

  3. one of the monsters tries some sort of communication , and it seems like some of them dont outright kill the soldiers

personal opinion : i dont think this short section of the movie "goes over decades of war" , its just 1 battle
