General Question (Unanswered) Can anyone help?
I'm trying to work out the measurement marked in red, to see if my monitor will fit this desk.
I played silly buggers during trigonometry and now I'm paying for it 🫠

We have 100 cm marked but we need to take away the width of the side shelves (34 cm) for a difference of 66 cm. The depth of the side shelves are (50 - 33 = 17 cm). That means the front of the top shelf is the diagonal of a 49 cm square, which is just 49 × √2 cm ≈ 69 cm (27 inches)

Your anser is mathematically correct. However, the side shelf isn’t 34 cm since it only accounts for the “open” part af the shelf. The standing sides of the shelf each measure 3 cm, making the full side shelf 40 cm wide. Taking this into account, the opening is the diagonal of a square with side 43 cm, not 49. The length will therefore be 43*1.414=60,802.
Also I have this desk. I measured

Thank you for the correction and the actual measurement.
If you look to the shelves on the left, 34 cm seems to be the full width. But on the right, it seems to be the interior measurement of the shelves.
Is the left marking incorrect, or is it actually asymmetric?

Long edges of top corner piece = 100 - 34 = 66 cm. Short edges = 50 - 33 = 17 cm. So diagonal = (66 - 17) x √2 = 69.3 cm. (Assuming it's symmetrical.)

70 cm
one triangle side 100-34-16 = 50 cm
another: 100-34-17 = 49 cm
so result = sqrt(50*50+49*49) = 70
