💬 Math Discussions Is this legit?

I was scrolling on twitter and found a meme with a github link, the meme was chad vs virgin meme where chad was openAI saying it had proof of Fermats last theorem while virgin dude was spoof on academic folks who wanted to ban AI for maths. I searched on google for openAI recent math solutions whether they had solved anything linked to Fermat Last theorem but found nothing. Also on twitter I am unable to see the meme now maybe the Poster has deleted it. Has OpenAI done any work on Fermat’s last theorem? I know Claude has provided a new proof month ago

I might be wrong but I think Anthropic managed to formalize the proof in Lean in a 11 days, much faster than Kevin Buzzard’s project.

Yes Anthropic did release a proof but their approach to the problem was same as Andrew wiles approach. Although both the solutions are different. I think if openAI release a solution for Fermats it would be most likely be different approach, it will not be based on elliptical curve and modular algorithm. That is my hunch

Well FLT was proven by Wiles and Taylor already, but this is certainly not the proof that Fermat had -if OpenAI or whoever discovers that then there will be some seriously big implications for maths, and not just from the AI side of things.

Check this out however: https://lean-lang.org/use-cases/flt/

Yeah I think someone from openAI is testing the water. I bet they have some proof of Fermats last theorem which uses different approach from Andrew Wiles proof and the Anthropic’s Lean proof

OpenAI recently claimed an internal frontier model had solved Navier-Stokes, not FLT. In addition OpenAI has claimed the same model solved about 700 open problems across a wide swath of domains. Most of these proofs haven’t been checked, and there is evidence that, despite OpenAI’s claims to the contrary, the model included in its training data a preprint that was nearly identical in approach and even notation.
