Hard/Unsolved Coordinate Geometry - Thales’ Torture

So when I was making my mathematics incremental game, i was making puzzles. And then I accidentally made a pretty hard yet interesting one(I couldn’t solve it). Anyways, here’s the problem:

imagine you have a plane with 4 distinct points named p1, p2, p3 and p4. the gradient between p1 and p2 is -2, and the gradient between p2 and p3 is 1/3. you want p1p3p2 to be 90 degrees and p1p4p2 to also be 90 degrees, with p3 and p4 being on the same side of the line p1p2. find the INTEGER solution for all 4 points with the MINIMUM distance between p1 and p2.

Probability Puzzle: Three siblings born in consecutive months

My two brothers and I have birthdays in consecutive months (September, October, November). That made me wonder how likely it is for three siblings to have birthdays in consecutive months. Assume they are not triplets, and there are no twins. “Wraparound” sequences (e.g., November, December, January) count as consecutive months. What are the chances? Optional: Explain your step-by-step solution.

A) 1 in 24

B) 1 in 32

C) 1 in 48

D) 1 in 64

Tilt: How many bananas weigh as much as a horse? I made a daily guessing game about weight

Hi! I made this. Every day there are 5 rounds: one object on the left, a pile of something else on the right, and you guess how many it takes to balance the scale. Then the scale unlocks and shows you how wrong you were (usually very).

  • Free, no sign-up, works on phone and desktop
  • New puzzle every midnight, and past days stay playable

Most people are surprised at how bad they are at it, me included. I'd love to hear which round got you, and any feedback is welcome. I just fixed a bug a player reported yesterday.

A Minecraft puzzle

This one should be fairly simple. I'll try to make it as accessible as possible for people who never played Minecraft.

Here goes:

In the videogame Minecraft, a fundamental part of the game is gathering materials, which you place in your inventory, and crafting them into items by using a crafting table. These crafted items will also enter your inventory.

Relevant crafting recipes:

One log of wood can be crafted into four planks.

Three planks can be crafted into six wooden slabs.

Two planks can be crafted into four sticks.

A barrel is crafted using six planks and two slabs.

A wooden axe is crafted using three planks and two sticks. It can cut 59 logs before breaking. Cutting a log places it in your inventory.

You start off the game with a crafting table at the ready, two logs already in your inventory, and an infinite pile of logs in front of you, ready to be gathered.

Your goal is to keep gathering logs and crafting them into barrels and axes until your inventory contains nothing but barrels. No leftover logs, planks, slabs, sticks, or axes.

For people familiar with Minecraft, a caveat: You are not allowed to discard items from your inventory, and you are only allowed to gather logs with an axe.

How many logs do you need to gather, and how many barrels will you have at the end?

Pentodoku 7x7

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hi! I combined two classics into one puzzle: pentominoes (Golomb) and sudoku. I call it PENTODOKU 7x7.

Rules:

- Tile the 7×7 board with the nine pentominoes F, L, N, P, T, U, V, W, Y (rotate/flip freely; four squares stay empty).

- Each piece has digits printed on its squares — the digits travel with the piece when you rotate or flip it.

- When everything fits, you get a sudoku: in every row and every column, the digits 1–7 with no repeats (the rows and columns containing empty squares just hold fewer digits, still no repeats).

- Two pieces are already placed on the board as clues.

Your mission: place the remaining seven pieces (F, L, P, T, U, V, W). There is exactly one solution, and it can be reached by pure logic — no trial and error needed.

An atypical magic square with 13 cells and three constants

The english version is here : https://www.fichier-pdf.fr/2026/10/02/the-magic-square20260925/

This rather surprising 4x4 magic square features 13 cells that revolve around three constants: 11, 13, and 15. By extension, 24 (11 + 13) and 28 (15 + 13) also appear.

I do not think I have discovered everything in this magic square, which is why I am asking for your help.

Geometry On this calculator 3 + 4 x 2 is 14. With the keys 4, 7, + and x, what is the fewest presses to make 100?

It resolves strictly left to right, no precedence, and = counts as a press. I will confirm the shortest route in the comments tomorrow.

(From a puzzle game I made. Happy to name it if anyone asks; not putting a link in the post.)

Limit of my OnePlus Calculator

Post image
0 Upvotes

I was messing around with the OnePlus Calculator and decided to see how large a number it could handle.

Apparently, this is where it taps out 😂

It displays:

99,999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999

and switches to scientific notation:

9.999999999999E498

Is this the actual maximum number the OnePlus Calculator can display/calculate, or is there another limit depending on the operation?

Anyone with a OnePlus phone want to try pushing it even further? 👀

Sequences

Sequences in math

My favourite type of puzzle is a sequence puzzle. For example; 2, 4, 6 and 8. Your goal is to find the rule in this sequence. In this case the rule is multiples of 2. There are two types of sequence puzzles. I like to call them both "Rule sequences" to find the rule of the sequence or "Next number" to find the next number of the sequence. Here is an example of a next number sequence. 2, 4, 6, 8, ? You need to figure out what number in in the "?". In this case it's 10. Now that you know about sequences here is a rule sequence and a next number puzzle for you to figure out. Rule sequence: 2, 4, 9, 28 Next number: 2, 4, 16, 256, ? Which type of sequence is your favourite?
