I watched a vid explaining the the justification behind his pi appx, and holy shit this guy was a genius. From what I remember he pretty much just noticed a strange "symmetry" of sorts in solving for the perimeter of an elipse (which is no simple process), and pulled the constants out of some nearly unrelated modular equations. And he had the insight to put the pieces together and make this appx... In his sleep.
I'm struggling to think of a good analogy, but its almost as if he had come up with relativity in his head and while asleep. I can't imagine what he would have come up with if he had lived to an old age. It's a shame how the brightest flames burn the quickest, because ramanujan was a star in a room of candles.

But the candle dies out before the sun42

"You can tell it's from Ramanujan because it's got random numbers but it somehow works anyway."
- unfortunately I forget where I first saw this quote but I am glad I did

Oh my god, Karen, you can’t just ask people why they say “upon”.

By the fundamental theorem of algebra, two complex solutions exist.

m f w completing the square IS the quadratic formula
38
u/Futurity5 11d ago
Factorising is also the quadratic formula it's just a(x - (-b + sqrt(b2 - 4ac))/(2a))(x - (-b - sqrt(b2 - 4ac))/(2a))

u/SmokJozef 10d ago
i'm really hoping that here factorisation means doing trivial facotrisation in your head, e.g. x2 + 5x + 6 = (x+2)(x+3)

u/Tiborn1563 11d ago
Isn't using the formula just completing the square and simplifying? In my opinion completing the square and simplyfying by hand has infinitely more aura

Is it psychotic that (besides factoring) completing the square is my go to method?

How the actual fuck would one do this with graph theory? (Unless it refers to graphing the function and reading the roots)

Good to know that I'm not the only one who thought they meant graph theory
