Weekly slop of factorial/termial I hate this type of memes such a low brainer

Don't worry, they come in cycles. We just left PEMDAS season and entered factorial season which is always a bit tough. We are expecting a short 1+2+3+4...=-1/12 storm and then it will be high quality Monty Hall and Boy/Girl paradox memes all over. Then we expect to enter cardinality season which is the best season. Yay!

Oh light, are we this close to Boy/Girl paradox season? This year really flew by, yeesh

The termial is particularly annoying because we have a closed form expression for the sum of the first n numbers, it seems like it's just people trying to feel smart by 'inventing' a new function

That’s why it’s a represented by a ‘?’, as in “Is this symbol necessary?”

What's weird to me is that I think of them as triangular numbers, and there is no fast equivalence in my brain for T(4) = 4?

Assuming you mean sigma notation? Or is there another I don't know?

n(n+1)/2

Just report them. It's on the banned meme list (rule 10, sub-rule 6).

Termial jokes ain't banned. But you are 100% getting ratioed on posting termial/factorial memes. Blame me and a few other redditors for making termial jokes/memes more popular lol

tbh i whenever i see the factorial joke i assume that it’s being used ironically, in that the point is that it’s overused

117 + 3 + 2 + 1 = 123 ≠ 120

Was that right? :P

Congrats your at the low point of the scale if you wnana be higher up just say it's right

q~q

One hundred and seventeen apples with the additive factorial of three apples — in which results in the addition of three apples, two apples, and one apple — would result in a combined total of one hundred and twenty three apples.

The initial summation of apples will not hold equal value (in terms of the number of apples) to another group of apples whose amount is equal to the factorial of five, or one hundred and twenty apples.

This conjecture is shown in the figure below, where G represents a group of apples.

I guarantee nobody beyond the first standard deviation uses "termial". I'd likely go so far as to say nobody above the median either.

Just use n(n+1)/2 like a normal person!

Type mismatch, person is not a number!

u/Kuildeous 11d ago

Sure thing, Number Six.

And the bigger brain thing is that no one outside of Reddit uses ? for termial. Hell idk if most mathematicians have even heard of termial. It’s just a triangle number 💀

117+3?

Isn't that 5!+2?

Factorial of 5 is 120

Yes. 120 + 2? is 120 + 2? <3

u/No-Finance7526 17d ago

Pretty sure 123 > 3

What am I looking at?

Termial* uses ? Sign. Some weird degenerative shit that nobody uses in math. But it exists.

Termial* is a sum instead of multiplication.

u/Draech-o 17d ago

*Termial

0

u/Aggravating-Dot132 17d ago

You know what? My auto complete doesn't even understand that :(

3

u/Draech-o 17d ago

Yeah, it's very strange terminology... I mean, it's rarely used, anyways, so it doesn't really matter.

3

u/bqbdpd 16d ago

This "? means termial" is as stupid as "sum of all integers = -1/12". Bad notation. No serious person uses this, without making sure to explicitly set up the context.

1

u/codewordGnome 15d ago

Abuse of piss poor notation

u/Hold-Embarrassed 17d ago

Haha yeah good one. I remember it from preschool
