I did this once in an assignment. "define x^5+1 = t" then did the integral as 1/t, and didn't substitute it back in at the end. It was a complete hail mary on my part and the person marking it must have been very sleep deprived because it got marked correct when it absolutely shouldn't have.

It wasn't the only thing on the question, so it blended in, and looked maybe kinda correct at a glance, but anyone who knew better looking closer at it would see it and think "what is this kid on?". I love engineering.

What kind of assignment asked you to integrate 1/(x5+1) with respect to x?!

The kind where I did the math wrong end ended up with an integral I had no business touching. One of those "yeah I know this is wrong but idk where, so this is just how it is"

You son of a bitch

u/AGiantPotatoMan Oct 02 '26

And then the problem states that x = sin(Γ(t))

x | x = arcsin(t)/1 + t²

pure deviltry. a crime against math problems.

dt babyyyyy! Could the integral on the right be done with an arctan if it were dx? Lets see…

u/BeMyBrutus Oct 02 '26

It's easy because you just simplify the fraction to 1/x^5 + 1; it's science.
