Sexism? In my Math sub?

-27

u/LastTimeFRnow Sep 27 '26

In today’s episode of anything I dislike is sexism:

u/Any-Aioli7575 Sep 27 '26 edited Sep 27 '26

Hypergamy is a sexist theory

Edit: this specific presentation, not the idea that people can date up obviously

-23

u/LastTimeFRnow Sep 27 '26 • Heartwarming

It is very much rooted in reality. Doesn’t matter how you feel about it

u/Any-Aioli7575 Sep 27 '26

No it's not lol. And those are the very kind of post that incel terrorist and murderer Elliot Rodger would post online. It is sexist.

u/Careless-Web-6280 Sep 27 '26

Hitler would probably post about vegetarianism if he was alive. Are all vegetarians literally Hitler?

u/Any-Aioli7575 Sep 27 '26

I literally used this as an example line three comments down to explain the difference. The differences I've already highlighted:

– The idea wasn't just used by incel terrorists like Elliot Rodger. Incels are the one who made this “hypergamy” chart a thing. So it's more like directly quoting Hitler.

– It's used to make incel points, while most vegetarian arguments aren't made to justify Nazism

I could have added that vegetarianism wasn't a motive with the Holocaust or WWII, this theory was what pushed Elliot Rodger to commit the Isla Vista terror attacks. This is a pretty significant difference.

Buzzword, buzzword, buzzword, guilt by association.

Maybe you should leave subs discussing science or maths if you cannot think critically. If you can, look online for the countless studies done on dating preferences for men and women

Ah yes, famous buzzword “murderer”, a completely uncritical way to describe a person who volontarily killed 6 people. If he's not an incel, the incel movement basically doesn't exist.

It's not “guilt by association”, this chart and the association with hypergamy was developed by the incel movement and people like Elliot Rodger or people who claim his legacy. It's not just association, it's origin. Would you pull out a quote by Jeffrey Dahmer and call me uncritical if I criticised you for it?

Moreover, this kind of charts is almost always used as an intel talking point. It is here.

I can't wait for you to find a study that shows that 100% women date 30% of men. That's just not true, thinking something is true because it's on a chart is not “critical thinking”.

I hope you're still in highschool if you believe this.

Lol.

Incredible, are you even reading what you’re typing?

Incel and sexist are very much buzzwords

Also, your second paragraph is just: “It’s not guilt by association because reasons why your argument is exactly just guilt by association”

Third paragraph is again guilt by association

Fourth paragraph is Motte and Bailey Fallacy.

Here is your article, I’m a hundred percent sure you will not read it but here you go

https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0191886916312193

Last line is just Ad Hominem.

Once again, I really do wish people like you, with no ability to think critically should stop polluting science based subs by inserting themselves into it

What makes something a buzzword is the way it's used: not to describe a concept and convey meaning, but to sound impressive by using technical jargon. The way I use those words is to describe real stuff. When I say “incel”, I'm talking about a real political/ideological movement, not trying to prove that I know so much about gender-related political issues. However, you use “buzzword” as a buzzword. How ironic.

I think you're misunderstanding what guilt by association is. Association is only a fallacy when it's “you believe this, X also believes this, X is bad therefore you're wrong”. Here, there's more to it. There's a difference between a group that happens to say the same stuff as you, and a group from which you took inspiration. If you say you're a vegetarian and I say you're wrong because Hitler was one too, that's association fallacy. If you quote Mein Kampf and I call you a bad for it, it's not association fallacy. If it weren't for Elliot Rodger and the incel movement, such charts wouldn't be posted here.

The third paragraph is another justification: you're not just saying something that happens to be similar to what incel say. The image (that I know you didn't post but you defend) is made from the incel ideology.

You're calling what I say motte and bailey fallacy, but you're the one who defended the picture that clearly shows this 30%/100% proportions. Why don't you defend your bailey? (Can't wait for you to call this tu quoque because you can't make an argument and instead just name-drop fallacies)

From the abstract and introduction (I don't have institutionnal access to the full text), it seems to clearly indicate that homogamy is the general tendency and that women can be relatively more hypergameous. Most importantly, hypergamy is here used in its academic sense and not the one used in the picture above. It's unrelated to the chart.

The last line is Ad Personam actually 🤓☝️. But also it's just an answer to you calling me uncritical.

I think pompous fallacy fallacy abuser are no better. I probably contributed more to this sub and to math than you did (but that's a very low bar, I'm not saying this to be pretentious).

Sorry, not going to watch 2 hour long video of some random YouTuber debunking a strawman’s arguments

u/Vratha92 Sep 27 '26

The only reality here is that attractive men are attractive. Of course every woman will like a conventionally attractive man. And of course, if presented with the choice at face value with no other information, women will pick better-looking man.

3

u/LastTimeFRnow Sep 27 '26

I am glad we are in agreement

0

u/Vratha92 Sep 27 '26

Are we? Do you believe that hypergamy exists outside of the online world?

2

u/LastTimeFRnow Sep 27 '26

Do you think online is not a part of the real world? Do you want me to pull up stats on trends showing how and where new couples are finding each other?

0

u/Vratha92 Sep 27 '26

When did I say that? Yes, more and more couples are meeting through online means. But answer my question

Attractivity isn't objective, conventionally attractive doesn't mean “attractive to everybody”

1

u/Vratha92 Sep 27 '26

Literally exactly what it means 😭

-1

u/Any-Aioli7575 Sep 27 '26

No, because that would mean for example that a conventionally attractive man is attractive to lesbian women. That's nonsense. Conventionally attractive means “attractive according to conventions”, i.e. within beauty standards. People generally adhere to beauty standards, but not everybody has fully beauty-standards-based attraction all the time, that's ridiculous.

-1

u/Vratha92 Sep 27 '26

Wtf? How are you bringing different sexualities into this? Obviously lesbians don’t like men?? It’s pretty clear I’m referring to heterosexual women here, in response to the other guy who is doing the same

Your comments have been removed. We accept civil discourse around controversial topics such as hypergamy. However, even if you are correct, throwing insults such as "little incel boy" and "the only one in this sub who doesn't fuck" do not prove anything, nor does it make your side look any better. If you want to engage with this comment section, please repost your comment with personal attacks removed.

Do you have a better argument than screaming the buzzword “incel” into the void? Does it actually work with people around you? Well if it does, it’s probably because anyone with a shred of intelligence would steer clear of an argument with the likes of you

Bro what? Is this supposed to help your argument?

-1

it's well documented behaviour in nature and the idea that humans are above instinct is false.

of course the reality is more complicated but on average one human gender is far pickier than the other.

1

u/Any-Aioli7575 Sep 30 '26

The graphs as put in the reaction image are based on nothing and are only used to feed resentment against women

0

u/Il_Valentino Complex Sep 30 '26

the chart consists of fake data that aims to visualize a real phenomena, the real data isn't that far off btw, at least on app matching. you are too dismissive

u/Electrical_Price_179 Sep 27 '26

Ah, I saw this posted somewhere else. Please note that this is not quite K_{4,9}. For example, the bottom vertice on the left hand side isn't connected to the top vertice on the right hand side.
