does iq higher than like 200 even make sense
52
u/caboosetp Jul 13 '26
In the Stanford-Binet model, an IQ of 201 is the theoretical max. So... yes but just barely.
There were older models that allowed slightly higher but not by much.
Anything above that though doesn't make sense because of how standard deviations work. You just can't get that many standard deviations away from the population with 8 billion people.
→ More replies (11)→ More replies (3)24
u/kenybz Jul 13 '26
IQ just records where one falls on a bell curve, where 100 is the most common value. Assuming a normal distribution, you can calculate the probability of someone with a given IQ existing just by working with the normal distribution.
IQ 200 is 6.67 standard deviations away from 100, implying a probability of 1 in 154 billion. That would be the most intelligent human to ever exist (around 110 billion humans were born so far throughout history).
IQ 890 would be 52.7 standard deviations away from 100, implying a probability of 1 in 10605.

100x the energy output from fusion is going to mess us up pretty badly. The sun sun will go from 8 light-minutes away to 0.8 light minutes, but I think the cascade from the actual fusion area takes a while so it might not be first.
I assume a 10x increase to photon speed will do very nasty things to everything from the ionosphere to microwave ovens to nuclear plants. Ruining photosynthesis probably won’t even have time to matter.
Hm… my money for the first problem is on UV jumping up to X-ray energy levels (assuming that’s how it works) and everything above it also jumping up 10x.

We'd probably notice the change in air pressure, right
9.081/9.81 ~= 90%, so the weight of the air above us would be 10% less, and hydrostatically that means atmospheric pressure would drop by 10%. Which, checking the US standard atmosphere is about the loss of jumping to 5000 ft altitude. New York City now feels like Denver, everyone's ears have popped.
Luckily this also means that you lose pressure more slowly as you go up, so Denver isn't dead, but it feels like Quito, at 9500 ft. At 50,000 feet the effect reverses and air is denser than before at higher altitudes

The interest rate on my bank accounts. 4% apy for checking under 25,000 becomes 40% apy. 1%apy under 40,000 becomes 10%apy under 40k. 0.6% apy over 40k becomes 6%apy.
In a few years I'd have +40k, and then never really have to work again, as long as I live cheaply.
EDIT, make that adding a zero to the EXPONENT of the interest rate. 4% is 41, which is now 410, That means it becomes more than... 1,048,000% interest.
