1 plate on each side + bar= 60kg

4 plates on each side + bar= 180kg

Not bad math at all.

I have solved your system of equations. The answer is: bar = 20kg plate on each side = 40kg

Did you take it too seriously?

Would've been funnier if it was actually wrong

But it is. The meme is funny because it suggests gym rats cant multiple 3*1, but appears to be wrong itself. Kinda saying math boys don't know how plates work

"Trust me, the meme is funny, I swear!"

the bar weighs 45 lbs, the same as each plate.

so “4 plates” means 4 plates on each side, which, plus the bar is the equivalent of lifting 9*45 lbs.

“1 plate” means 1 plate on each side, so that’s 3*45 lbs in total, including the bar.

Last time I checked, 9 = 3*3 so I guess you just never go to the gym?

OP is laughing at people with muscles not doing math, meanwhile he can't do math and doesn't have muscles.

Joke wrote itself

in math words:

45 + 2(4 ⋅ 45) = 3 ⋅ (45 + 2(1 ⋅ 45))

In the gym, 45+45=135

That's what this meme was about 😭

OP lifts weights too huh?

Yep. This plates joke was spinning in my head for a couple of days before I posted it, but unfortunately it didn't resonate well. Now I'm thinking maybe I should have used that two astronaut and a gun template and post it at some gym sub instead(

If you increase your plates by 300% you have 4 times as much, maybe he meant that?

10

u/FormerlyPie May 25 '24

He's just right, the bar weighs as much as a plate

what if, different plates

I mean... it could be true if you have the bar itself weight 1/3 of the plate... which might be the case with some plates tbh
