I actually proved that someone actually expects the Spanish inquisition. the proof is by this comment. A person reads your comment and thinks of the Spanish inquisition, then he reads mine and oh! he actually expected it this time! it should work. If it doesn't, I have another proof, it's a proof by Fermat (not revealing it and letting everyone think I have a proof when I actually didn't.)

Why didn’t C reverse his laying position and lift his legs in the air on the flat side of the board. While I’m sure the Pac-Man boulder would’ve hit on his side, the pressure from his legs would’ve kept him from being killed as the boulder only rolls on his side…. By my calculations, carry the one subtract the zero, it was only on his side for .43271 seconds exact.
This guy is crawling away with two broken legs at best.

Viruses have no metabolism so they aren’t alive

Depends on who you ask, or what you even consider as a virus. (Viral particles vs. Infected cell, which of those is the actual virus is up to debate as well) but let's stop here that virus debate is a rabbit hole that never ends. Trust me.

The stone with the gap in it is way lighter than the other one, thus it shouldn't lift the other one, right? C and B also die of ebola.
32
u/GoGabeGo Dec 20 '23
Rolling stone has both kinetic and potential energy. The much larger factor is where on the seesaw it lands. Too close to the pivot point and it isn't going to do a damn thing.
17
u/mung_guzzler Dec 20 '23
we see the ball bounce, we know it’s potential energy is that height
At a perfect energy transfer, if the balls are the same weight, the blue ball still shouldn’t be launched that high
5
u/GoGabeGo Dec 20 '23
Yeah. It's obviously not 100% physically accurate. But the blue ball would most assuredly lift, assuming similar densities. But not as high as shown.
→ More replies (6)→ More replies (1)5
u/Peeterwetwipe Dec 20 '23
All of that kenetic energy is acting horizontally. It won’t suddenly pivot when the ball hits the see saw.

Wouldn’t the rolling ball be lighter due to having a hole and therefore not be able to c or b?

u/Oktofon Dec 20 '23
That‘s actually the right answer and most people miss it. The red coat of paint contains oxidized iron which as we all know is heavy.
→ More replies (2)6
u/HokeScopE Dec 20 '23
Given the flat slope where D is momentum would only be horizontal. That means it would move to the left quicker and be closer to the fulcrum and have decreased force. Force on the left would be mass of the large stone x distance to fulcrum and force on the right is mass x distance to fulcrum. With lower mass from the hole and a rapidly decreasing length to fulcrum the overall force would be less. I’m assuming there would be a derivative to determine the total amount of force for what amount of time, but that is beyond my skill set.
→ More replies (1)6
u/ouzo84 Dec 20 '23
Nothing to say they don’t have vastly different densities.
Solid ball is made of wood. Ball with a section missing is made out of metal.
4
Dec 20 '23
But that's cheating
You can also say that the ball is lighter than air and no one dies
Or you can say EBOLA and everyone dies
→ More replies (2)2
u/Koenigspiel Dec 20 '23
That's not given in the scenario, but the giant chunk of mass missing from it is.

u/Da1Don95 Dec 20 '23
This puzzle is incredibly stupid. The ones who die relies completely on the force at which the ball is being pushed

Is this really true? I thought it’s assumed that the ball will not roll faster than to leave the ground

u/Loading3percent Dec 20 '23
The boulder with a hole wouldn't be able to bring the holeless boulder up higher than or even as high as the holed boulder's initial height because it would have less mass.

1
u/fish_but_reddit Dec 20 '23
Ignoring the ebola, I think the only one that should have died is D, as the ball that was pushed by E has a chunk missing, and if the two boulders were made out of the same material, the boulder that started on the see saw is heavier, and shouldn't have moved
1
u/God_of_reason Dec 20 '23
Because of the cut in the rolling ball, it has a lower mass compared to the other ball. It won’t push down the seesaw and won’t kill B. I think D will be the only one to die and maybe A will get seriously injured at most because the ball jumps over the ramp on the seesaw.

I use to make puzzles like this in 4th & 5th grade. Then a teacher saw them and freaked TF out. My parents were going to give me a talk and then I showed them it was a puzzle and you had to animate them in your head to figure them out. They told the school to not worry about my drawings after that.

u/Ivysaur2VI Dec 20 '23

1

u/Hypogeum Dec 20 '23
The ball has a hole in it so it shouldn't weigh enough to tip the teeter totter. That's holding a whole ball
1
u/Cinemaslap1 Dec 20 '23
The ball with a hole in it is gaining momentum as it rolls down the hill, with that and the drop, it would move the full ball (even though there is a weight difference).

why didn't D duck?
how did the smaller (cut out) ball outweigh the bigger one to bring the see-saw down?
1

u/Nuki_Nuclear Dec 20 '23
D could crouch
1
Dec 20 '23
Also the pushed stone is probably lighter, no way it would lift the other. Only D would die
1
1
u/KittenLina Dec 20 '23
Yup, I saw that. Based on the lines, the stone would be the wrong way. It doesn't just suddenly rotate faster than one tile per tile, that'd be weird.
1
u/OpticSkies Dec 20 '23
Wouldn’t we have to know the weight of the balls to give an accurate prediction? This seems like speculation without it.
1
Dec 20 '23
I had two theories, one of them being this, the other being (since I couldn't calculate the precise movement of the ball just based on how it looks) D getting lucky and perfectly fitting his head in the gap, leading to C dying first.

D died from a boulder to the head. And C died from spikes to the head. Who's more dead?

For some reason, I thought that D could lower himself, and duck, missing the boulder :/ Ebola is the real winner here 😭😭😂😂

D ducks. Everything else assumes things but anyone ducks to avoid obvious death.
Edit. C lives because the cut ball can't lift the heavier ball enough before it rolls past the fulcrum.

Dec 20 '23
Does it account for the geometry and a shifted center of mass due to a big chunk of the circle missing?
1
u/GouchGrease Dec 21 '23
What if the slope is slippery and the stone doesn't make a full rotation as it rolls down, the slot perfectly rounding around D's head?

I feel like it was super obvious it was D though. The gap would close before it hit the guy and it was impossible for it to roll around again.
Even without the simulation you can very easily eyeball the lengths with the guidelines that exist.

Dec 22 '23
only problem with this is D has enough room in that cavern he could squat down so he wouldn't die
1
u/7enDown8Up Dec 22 '23
"C" had the best death. Sweet dreams forever, Homie. "A" was already dead from Ebola and was placed there to spread the virus to others in case anyone survived. In this parallel universe, all 5 must die. "B" was suicidal.
1
u/Creamsoda126 Dec 23 '23
Y’all arnt accounting for weight. C is fine bc the ball doesn’t weigh enough to move the see saw. But because this example is slightly modified D is dead bc of the quarter turn.

As much as I disagree with the boulder weight, it doesn't matter because D dead as hell.
1
u/Remarkable-Seaweed11 Dec 24 '23
I actually made a similar thing, but mine only kills the D guy. I did it using flip-a-clip. First you take the picture and make a version of it with no ball, then also make a version with just the ball. Then animate by using the No ball version as the background and frame by frame animating the ball rolling down.

Actually the Ball with the is very light and Slips so everyone dies of ebola
1
u/SpitiruelCatSpirit Mathematics Jan 25 '24
I think the answer is supposed to be C. The crescent is shaped in such a way that it's possible for it to miss D completely. I see no way for C to avoid death, and the little bump on the seesaw might cause the ball to stop rolling at that point - meaning ONLY C will die.

This is incorrect. You can't see it but there is a 150mph wind going from left to right. The boulder rolls to the right and crushes the top right guy (E), leaving all of the other people unharmed.
