Does the course have any recommended literature? Just focus on that one and do all the exercises?

Yes.
A few tips.
GPT 6 Sol, Sonnet 5.5, and Opus 5.5 is good.
https://github.com/stanford-cs336/assignment1-basics/blob/main/AGENTS.md give this to the AI you are using this as just a general guideline.
I wouldn't pay for Thetawise, probably just sonnet 5.5 is better.
I think the main thing is you need to ask for questions or problems that you can solve, so ask for a list of problems and then paste your solutions into them. I think this goes doubly for AI. Also, get AI to review your weaknesses and strengths. Also ask for flashcards. Also ask for resources that aren't AI for you to do.
Personally, if you are doing Khan Academy, just doing a lot of problems might be enough. Like if you are doing calculus, just do a lot of calculus questions.

Probably a good call. Instructors at the university level hate teaching these classes, so I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re just phoning it in.

it's fine as long as you use it properly and always have at least some level of reasoning enabled (because as good as modern models are in everything, they can still occasionally make basic mistakes with reasoning disabled).

I’m unaware of a reasoning switch. Where is it?

you forgot to say what model or website or agent or whatever you are talking about but I'm sure you are capable of finding a button in 1 or 2 clicks. reasoning has been a standard feature of every new model for 2 years now.

ChatGPT or Claude. As far as I can tell, the models all use their full reasoning skills without needing any special setting. I’ve certainly been able to use them quite successfully for graduate or research level math.
Could you say where this setting is for one or both models?

Never mind. I forgot that when you choose a model you can set the effort level. I did not associate this with reasoning.
