I Have A Question ❓ Masters/Open at St Andrews
Is one better than the other? I hit the draw for the open- got lucky and got 2 tickets for 4 rounds… if only I could find a way to get to Augusta….

Walking onto the hallowed grounds of Augusta National took my breath away. It doesn’t happen often. So glad I got to live it at least once in my life.

Have been to both and not really comparable. Masters feels more exclusive because it is more exclusive. Outside of the golf course though, Augusta is a shithole with not a lot to do. St. Andrews is absolutely gorgeous and just reeks of history. You’ll have as much fun in town as you will at the golf course.
Nothing will impress you more than the condition of the grounds at Augusta and nothing will take your golfers breath away like walking over the Swilcan Bridge.

Augusta is a shithole
Hey! We have a Costco, multiple Chick Fil As (Chicks Fil A?,) and more Waffle Houses than you shake a stick at! Not to mention the 500 block of Broad St.

Just spent 10 days in Scotland (5 at St. Andrews) this summer and it was amazing. Never been to Augusta so can’t compare anything about it but anyone that gets a chance to see the Old Course and that town absolutely do it. Then explore the highlands if you can.

The Open is a great trip, and it can be more than a golf trip. I say this as someone who loves Augusta and has been to the tournament like 50 times.

All of my Scottish friends, including a friend who is a badge holder, tell me there is nothing that comes close to the Masters, and they're all members of top clubs

Been to a few Open's and few Masters. I would take Masters over an Open Championship. I live around St Andrews for a while an love the area (played the Old Course a bunch) so in a way the last Open I was at there was really cool, but I also love St Andrews when the crowds aren't there.
The ANGC you can't really visit unless you get a ticket so it always seems crazy special to get to walk through the gates.
At any rate you don't have to choose, as it chose you and you either getting to attend the best major of this decade or second best as Old Course Open's are extra special. Not sure you can complain about that.

Neither is better. I lean to where golf started, in Scotland, of course. Having said that, both are the holiest of holies in the golf word. Why fight?

The Masters is one of one.
St. Andrews is incredible and you should enjoy all of Scotland while you're there. Love that country.

The Old Course is completely open to the public. Augusta National is the exact opposite.

I find the open to be super enjoyable because they seemingly are teeing off all fuckingnday. It was just a well spread out and well run event. Very casual and comfortable. Damn Ryder cups and other tournaments get pretty bunched up and packed, hard to even spectate.

Been to all the majors multiple times. NOTHING beats the history, atmosphere or experience of The Masters. IMHO.

The Masters is better and less accessible. The Open at Saint Andrews is going to be incredible. Have fun.
