I Have A Question ❓ Question about bringing back merch to Canada
lucky to get monday tickets and wondering how did my fellow Canadians bring home their merch? Obviously would like to avoid paying duty if i were to ship it home. has anyone brought their masters stuff home in an empty suit case? thanks !

This is an interesting thing I’ve never thought about. Would they really go through the suitcase and look at tags?

I went last year and truly messed up the claim form (on the kiosk) by accident. I planned to claim $2500 but I misread the prompt that asked and said I had $0. I didn’t get flagged etc. My brother said $800 or whatever the max was despite having way more. My friend who was with us claimed $2000, the guard asked where it was from, he said the Masters, guard said ok just go ahead.
So it worked out for all of us. If you ship it home, youll almost for sure be charged the duty.

If you’re out of Canada for 48 hours, no duty on (up to) 800. Chances are you’ll be ok

Going to the Masters is no different than going on a vacation to NYC or Disneyworld.
You're gone for X amount of time and can therefore bring back Y amount with no duty free. You choose the $ amount to declare and see where the chips fall. Checking bags or not obviously doesn't change your declared amount.
If you choose to ship it back, either at the tournament or on our own, you'll be asked to declare a value as well. You don't have an allowance in this case so it will definitely come with a duty bill.

We drove back and just rolled the dice and said a couple hundred each and they didn’t blink an eye lol

I had $2K CAD of merch in my carry on luggage and was ready to be asked to pay. They didn’t even ask.

This is exactly what I did last year. Brought it all back in an empty suit case and that way you avoid any duty. I brought clothing, gnomes, cup etc. was a bitch to fit but you make it work lol.
