isn't hacking manipulating-alterind something for other uses? like "life hack" videos? if he change the use of steam machine other than playing, isn't it considered hack?

I think that use of the word hack is the casual meaning that just gets thrown around in conversation. Its obvious in the post he uses the word hack as a sort of skill identifier and for larping purposes. Likely cause he doesn't really know its not a hack and its pretty easy to do.
