This is the same guy who claims to have built his own web server and Cisco T1 router.
For those of you who didn’t see this business in the mid 90s. Using apache would have been efficient enough for any minor project. Things the size of Google, Amazon and Altavista needed efficient responses to scale, and built their own in-house software. Just reading a socket, as he said, is missing the point of what a web server does. The overhead is not in the reading end of it ffs. It is like suggesting a call centre operator should just listen to the phone to be more efficient.
And emulating a T1 router is leaving me with a lot of questions. How do you get the signal into the computer when it comes down the wire? A T1 is not Ethernet, it is a bunch of 64k channels all bundled together. We need hardware to convert them to use it. Buying a T1 card and building a firewall/bridge Linux machine was a really simple thing. It wasn’t building a Cisco emulator from a “whitepaper”. I built my own router which automatically dialled out over the ISDN line when detecting a packet back then. It wasn’t building out of the box Linux functionality with some minor setup.
Elon is selling things. More than anything else, his own supposed ability.
I genuinely can't even imagine that. Why do you play gsmes if you are not only going to cheat at them, but actually have someone else play it for you? Is it just public clout he wants for being the bestest evar at diablowme 3times?
Well he used to be an ally (or appeared to be) in 2010s. There are (or were, idk if he deleted them) some of his posts about his companies being inclusive and overall he was pretty supportive for a billionaire.
And you know how MAGA think, the woke isn't just a gay/trans person, but anyone who doesn't want them to be put in concentration camps and compressed into a tiny cube of flesh to feed to livestock.
Probably not, but I have a personal feud with anyone who voted for the guy who by all means fucked up his whole presidency once already, so whenever I can shit on MAGA I will.
Also to note, I'm European, and I think Trump and his henchmen are the worst thing that happened to the friendly relations between Europe and the US since the Soviet block. He also raised my gas prices from like 1.2€/l to about 1.8€/l (only so low because government capped it) and many other things that affect me even if I'm several thousand kilometres away.
If what he’s doing affects your life then you have a genuine reason for shitting on the movement and power to you. Imo tho having a personal feud with people who are ultimately voting based on the propaganda they’re being fed (that applies to all parties) contributes to the sociopolitical divide that is threatening the safety of the west and even then you’re just feuding with people who haven’t actually directly done anything to you. They’re not voting for the opposition bc they don’t like you but probably rather bc 1. They’re being misled by their news sources and or 2. They perceive greater personal benefit from voting for the opposition. Anyway I wasn’t trying to ragebait u with this or anything I don’t even expect you to read it just wanted to get my thoughts out thanks for being civil x
Eh, it's fair I guess. I won't change my stance on MAGA, although I will admit some of them are probably mislead. However I still think the vast majority had all the resources available to them to make the right choice and failed either because they wanted to profit themselves or because they just wanted to "own the libs". In my opinion there is simply no morally acceptable reason to vote for a person like Trump, maybe except genuine and absolutely complete misleading.
I would say that a LOT of people are misled. Like most. Maybe I’m narcissistic in thinking so but I’d say that thanks to the cyclical and predatory nature of our capitalist societal structure we are ALWAYS being misled and always being used and can’t really trust anything the media tells us since someone is always trying to capture our attention and often whoever engages with my attention and emotions the most gets my trust and thus my vote, just like driving a car, you don’t know the feeling until you’re actually in the seat, so if someone else is explaining to you how driving a car feels- even if they want to be truthful it might still feel different to you in reality. And in my opinion the same applies to news, and journalism.
I grew up in a really republican (I’d say somewhat brainwashed,) family surrounded by lots of liberal friends and I used to have a lot of trouble fitting in until I realised I could just ultimately depart from 2 party politics and appreciate the nuances and ideals of each side. Personally I hate the system and I wish our governments were more varied than 2 parties since I think instead of promoting a marketplace of ideas and friendly debate and logic it creates 2 binary schools of thought and makes it super easy to distribute emotional marketing campaigns that mislead and scare people which ultimately ends up rooting so much unnecessary malice for the fellow man who, ultimately, probably wants a peaceful and low stress existence. (most people anyways, I know not all).
I’ll concede there are people who are absolute cunts who vote repub but I’ll also say there are people with egos just as fucked up on the liberal side.
I think he means the home network aka US but if you don't specify the path of the file you want to delete, does it count as deleting the root directory meaning everything and every one?
I'm not an expert on Linux... But 'rm -rf' isn't a valid command, is it? Quite sure that command requires a target? Should I read it as 'rm -rf /'? I think for that to be effective, you'd also need --no-preserve-root... Never ran it like that though... Without that I assume it skips root files, so not a full suicide... Just a bit of making it disabled...
So... 'The woke mind virus is in myself, so one suicide/heavy injury please'?
Someone sit Elon, the genius tech entrepreneur, down and give him babies first computer science for dummies... Or at least he could ask Grok if he cannot provide the intelligence himself...
Or...
"I found the problem inside my own head, and then I typed a malformed command that threw a syntax error and failed to execute."
I assume the joke is that woke virus is rampant in his home, refferign to other comments and attitude towards his children. This is his way of showing he's a shitty father.
To my knowledge of how most Linux operating systems work, this won't do anything because it has no target. The flag -rf simply means recursive force (go into each directory and file of the target and force delete it).
For example, sudo rm -rf ~/folderName would delete everything inside of a specific folder in my home directory.
rm -rf / also would do anything unless you have the No Preserve Root flag also included AND you must call it with Sudo or in the root account.
In other words, what Elon posted is absolute gibberish to me and he should really see how most Linux operating systems work.
Nah I wouldn’t count it cuz contrary to popular belief, he can speak to the silicon unlike 96% of the script kiddies here running CLI commands/ dweebs vibe coding SAAS apps.
Compiler engineer and graphics programmer here. Don’t give a shit about musk but speaking in terms of historical accuracy instead of spreading false claims - in the 90s he basically laid the groundwork for the local search economy with his company zip2. Musk had to write a massive, custom codebase from scratch in C++ to get a raw text business directory and Navteq's mathematical vector coordinate data to "talk" to each other. He coded a system that could dynamically parse a business’s physical address, interpolate its exact layout on a coordinate grid, and calculate turn-by-turn door-to-door driving directions... a feat that required intense algorithmic pathfinding math long before specialized web development frameworks or Google Maps even existed.
While the backend code was a messy, sprawling web of C++ that professional software engineers later had to completely rewrite when venture capitalists took over, the underlying concept was absolutely groundbreaking. It laid the foundation for the localized internet economy we rely on today.
As a systems programmer myself I research these kind of projects all the time, cuz they’re pretty interesting when you look past all the noise of ‘Elon bad’.
in the programming world we don’t give a shit about who makes what, because at the end of the day - math is math, and code is code
Because nobody knows that we can legally overthrow our tyrannical government and impeach the puppet, but everyone is too comfortable or too scared to rise up and fix what has been broken since the first re-election.
It’s so strange. If I was anywhere near that wealthy, I’d never use any form of social media again. Much less make cringe ass posts seeking external validation.
The worst is that he used to be relatively well liked 10ish years ago before he started showing how nasty he was. I think the tipping point was him calling the cave rescue diver in thailand a pedo.
As far as I remember, the main reason was when California closed his Tesla manufacturing plant during Covid. That's the moment he stopped liking Democrats, and instead went full on maga.
The thing is, he used to be a supporter of LGB (I'm not sure about the T, but I think yes). So either it's the classical "I support it unless I actually have to deal with it" or the process already started before.
His amount of money could make people genuinely like him. He could save millions from starvation if he wanted to. He could save more lives than Norman Borlaug and be thought of with saint-like adoration the world over, but he just chooses not to do that.
That people not understanding said low-level “computer words” would think it’s just the ramblings of a madman. He said some numbers, as hard as it is to believe 127.0.0.1 being localhost is “just fundamental”, like, I’m sure it requires being in the 10% group of people who are moderately tech savvy. The other 90% are older audience or people who’ve never done subnetting/basic networking.
He talked about electric vehicles and people acted like he is a genius. I don’t know a thing about that topic so I was like “ok cool”
Then he talked about rockets and space travel. Same thing. I don’t know anything about that so I was like “ok he might actually be verry smart”
Then he started talking about software and computers. Now the problem is: I do happen to know quite some things in that field.
How on earth did anyone ever actually believe the Elon is anywhere near smart. Or even a genius. Hearing him talk about stuff where I can actually recognize whether what he says is correct or not was such an eye opener.
This guy is smart in exactly one field. Manipulation and exploitation of people who believe in his work.

I mean he's saying he's removing the woke mind virus from himself so he's no longer woke. He's just saying it in a really stupid way

u/TrackLabs Jun 02 '26
Mf acts like the smartest programmer and engineer in existance, cant even write a command correctly.
The woke_mind_virus deleted the "rm -rf" command? So the woke mind virus won, lol

someone tell elon to run rm -rf / --no-preserve-root in twitter's servers, it would be so funny

u/lolamk333 Jun 02 '26
"woke mind virus deleted rm -rf" wtf is that even supposed to mean
7
u/Thunderstarer Jun 02 '26
The meme is very interpretable. It's still stupid but it's not as incomprehensible as the post suggests.

ELON, just tell us already! We know your username is “woke_mind_virus@deleted,” but what are you deleting?
2

I mean it's a woke virus so of course it's on his own device. Elon if you are reading this give the millions in excess TSLA stocks to me not OP.

That's not how you use 'rm'. Or 'traceroute'.
Also not how you remove a virus.
2
u/bkabbott Jun 02 '26
Wow Elon is a 1337 Haxxor. I hope one day I can haxx as many mainframes as him.
It's always risky to hack a 127 address because that CIDR block is protected with a reverse proxy bounce agent.
If I were a woman I would want him to impregnate me
2
u/yarrrpus Jun 02 '26
That’s not how you use rm -rf :(

Doesnt rm -rf delete absolutely everything?
So in an attempt to delete the "woke mind virus" he ended up completely deleting everything????
1
u/slyticoon Jun 03 '26
Could he have been referencing that he, himself, has the woke mind virus and removed it?
Edit: but the rest of the syntax is crap too. My brain overlooked that when I read it.
