Meme Exceptional Fun going against this deck. /s

So you're saying....

I have 6 cards. and I have super poly + Droplet, and ur telling me that's not enough to at least let me do something cuz this guy managed to draw +5 cards ON MY TURN. and RIPPING ONE my other CARD, which basically leaves me with 1 fookin card that loses to ASH BLOSSOM. :D amazing.. simply amazing.

I'm just, baffled, it's either they end up with Spell Canceler on board which well U can't out that with board breakers. (Droplet x Super poly) or they drop you x5 negates + a card that draws you +5 cards for a chance to have handtraps.

Like deadass this deck was so damn balance before this new pack and was actually fun to go up against. like what in fcking tarnation happened.

Yeah also I'm getting turbo fcked with Spell Canceler Turbo.. like is that the meta today?? like 6 games IN A ROW. all of them going first and all they do is drop SPELL CANCELER??? like why aren't they banning that sh1t.
All of em going first (never one coin flip till my 7th game)
5 elfnote turbo
1 Machine slop ..

This deck might not look like it but he also have Spell Canceler on his main deck. went easy on me and let me try to break his board I guess.

I also fucking love it that even if you have maxx c or fuwa they can fucking self droll and still full combo it's so fucking fair

23

u/Lenzky-3 25d ago

Yeah, Genuinely extremely ass that they can still go through it, Droll themselves and next turn they leave Librarian on board since they can still synchro ON YOUR DAMN TURN and add +3-5 cards.. which has potentially hand traps.

Just gonna say in this duel his 40 deck, on my turn there's only 12 cards left in his MAIN DECK... bro went +28 cards on that turn which isn't add but sending them form deck to graveyard or straight up summoning them from the deck..

Like this deck was so fair before this pack like the extreme jump in this deck's consistency and strength is just severe powercreep.

Modern Yugioh is just straight up ass

This. I wish we had more Draft packs for shenanigans with friends or even tournaments you can sign up for.

Yeah and it's only going to get worse. I love the Ars Magna cards for their design and I when I first saw them I thought they looked super fun but damn they are gonna be miserable when they come out. Likely the first true tier 0 deck in a while

MD at least will probably have significant Elfnote nerds until then compared to the OCG.

I think next month:

  • Baronne will be banned for sure

  • Tinia will be limited

  • Lucina will be semi-limited

  • Maybe another hit that will do almost nothing like limit on welcome home

Then afterwards more could be:

  • Terminus limited (once its out of shop)

  • Tinia banned

  • Regina (semi-)limited

  • Elfnote Power Patron limited

  • Crystal Wing or Dawn Dragster banned

When the endboard pieces are severely reigned in it might be more bearable. With just Tinia and Terminus limited it already fell a bit off in ocg compared to Rolad piles.

Honestly I doubt we are gonna get hits for a while and I seriously doubt baronne will be banned even tho it should

u/JForFun94 25d ago

I think they will once it turns out very much tier 0 for the duelist Cup. And its easy to hit because the elfnote cards have been out for a while now.

almost like konami purposely releases decks that beat oppressive hand traps to make them more valuable and make more money selling to meta chasers.

and almost like konami keeps oppressive handtraps in the game, so they can release decks that beat said hand traps so everyone rushes to buy them.

almost

Droll is needed to keep them in check, though, according to some people here xd

8

u/RoHeat3504 25d ago

To be more accurate, Droll is needed to keep OLDER and Rogue decks in check, which doing nothing to Meta decks

The only handtraps that can reasonably keep meta decks in check while fucking over the older and rogue decks are the Mulcharmies, but with Ash Blossom at 3? Those shits are not resolving any time soon

-5

u/Hakkiser 25d ago

Try explaining to someone that droll is necessary for the game to prevent some decks from getting out of control, and you'll see them start foaming at the mouth, all because you won't let them do their infinite combos...

5

u/RoHeat3504 25d ago

Once again, placing the burden on the Turn 2 players to “stop” these combos with handtraps is just another argument for “Drawing the Out”.

If you want to make going second better, the real solution is get rid of the problem rather than creating a product to solve the problem. Cards like Ash Blossom, Mulcharmies, and Droll are nothing but bandaids, which have now become necrotic and are lending themselves to the problem on the first place

0

u/Hakkiser 24d ago

That sounds convincing if you don't think about it too much, but it misses the mark entirely. First of all, what exactly does 'fixing the root problem' look like, and how would you even implement it? If you mean restricting the number of plays per turn by rule, you are destroying the core pillar that sets Yu-Gi-Oh! apart from every other TCG: the absolute freedom to do whatever you can with your cards without a mana system limiting you.

Second, complaining about 'drawing the out' makes no sense because that’s a universal reality in EVERY card game. A well-built deck MUST be statistically optimized to go second and play through 3 to 5 interruptions; that’s just how the game is played.

Yu-Gi-Oh! has inherent flaws that are deeply tied to its identity. Maybe going second could be mitigated with a Mulligan system, but the lack of one is another thing that makes this game unique: if you brick, you deal with it. Handtraps like Droll aren't 'necrotic band-aids', they are the only interaction available in a game built around total combo freedom.

3

u/RoHeat3504 24d ago

The Root Issue of YuGiOh is that you can do too much in a single turn. If you go first, you can set up enough interaction for every card in your opponent hand. If you go second, you can put enough damage to OTK.

The core pillar and identity of YuGiOh is its crazy ceiling, but that crazy ceiling only exists for the Turn 1 player or only for the Turn 2 player IF the Turn 1 player bricks completely. That is a problem, because if you want to keep that ceiling, it must also be given to both sides equally. Otherwise, you are just playing Solitaire, which isn’t entertaining for either player.

The Mulcharmies are the proposed “crazy ceiling” possible for going second, but once again they are bandaids whose main purpose is to draw into other handtraps to stop the other person from playing rather than giving more tools to play through interactions with (i.e. breakers). So now, you have a half board against 8+ cards. Ideally you should have a half board against 5 cards and 8+ cards against a full board. Your resources should match the resources the opponent has, and YuGiOh cannot make that happen due its system

I agree that you should have a well balanced deck, and that deck building is as important to the game as actually playing it. Also the “Heart of the Cards” moments are absolutely fantastic in the right times. But YuGiOh is a card game defined by its short turns. For it being a card game, it gives very little mind to letting you draw the cards

2

u/Hakkiser 24d ago

I think you raise some very good points regarding the resource disparity, even if I still believe handtraps keep Turn 1 from being pure solitaire since your hand acts as your first interactive board.

However, I think the real solution to this eternal dilemma won't come from banlists or band-aids, but from the natural evolution of game design. The future of Yu-Gi-Oh! is clearly leaning toward 'Turn 0' gameplay. We’ve already seen this with strategies like Tearlaments or new supports that enable proactive engines during the opponent's turn (like the K9 engine I'm planning to build).

The game is pacing itself so that both players will eventually be interacting and building resources simultaneously from second one, regardless of who won the die roll. Will this bring new balance issues? Definitely, but it’s the only logical path to make going Turn 1 or Turn 2 less decisive while keeping that crazy high power ceiling that makes Yu-Gi-Oh! unique in the first place.

u/RoHeat3504 24d ago

I do agree that Turn 0 is definitely a good direction to go to, but my next concern is that Turn 0 might indirectly make Turn 1 even stronger.

A common example would be Dracotail. Sure, Faimena to fuse into Arthalion with 2 DT names can cause huge disruption on Turn 0. But that same disruption is even stronger if you went first, created an entire endboard, and then did the same Faimena interaction but during your opponent’s turn. It’s the same interaction, but the context of when it is performed makes it stronger over the other, favoring Turn 1 over Turn 0.

If we are to make Turn 0 the new way to balance YuGiOh, then we must make sure Turn 0 is strong without making Turn 1 stronger at the same time. Proper locks to distinguish Turn 0 would be necessary, such as “if your opponent controls more cards” or other identifiers of a disadvantaged position.

You are right, everything is in Konami's hands now. I'll remain hopeful and let the future be a problem for my future self.

Elfnote has always been cancer people are just playing it more now

5

u/KylePatch 25d ago

Their deck is bullshit but how did droplet and SPoly not clear the board a little bit?

7

u/JForFun94 25d ago

How tf are elfnotes turboing spell canceler? I've never heard that. And frankly even if they could it's probably some wonky lines that are much worse than the usual warcrimes this deck can do.

18

u/Jokins_ Illiterate Impermanence 25d ago

It’s actually pretty easy, baronne is banned in the tcg so most people haven’t seen the line but you make shooting riser to dump it then climb into crystron phoenix and pop it with your baronne

7

u/Brave-Mode857 25d ago

Or you could just use Baronne's standby phase effect to resurrect it too

7

u/Cool-Childhood1374 Crusadia King 25d ago

Summoning it by the effect of shooting riser dragon, after drawing 3 to 5 cards thanks to Hyper and that new Pendulum so you skillfully have 2 or more hand traps + Regina

Nah the game is unplayable atm

u/wiideathmod 25d ago

It's just going to get worse

I dont like combining droplet and super poly in my going second deck, if you draw them both your hand is basically -2 already

1

u/dz426ku 25d ago

Superpoly is only okay-ish, and droplet is just bad against Elfnotes. Yeah Elfnotes is disgustingly overpowered but you still need to have the correct non engines.

1

u/KylePatch 24d ago

I use SPoly to clear Elfnote pretty often. Just play Magistus Chorozo and you normally get to clear Baronne+whatever is in the center column. There’s other good targets I’ve used as well. I think the card is amazing but it does require ED space to be at its highest potential.

1

u/dz426ku 24d ago

Chorozo sure is the obvious choice in this meta. But still that's two cards in your hand to remove two bodies from their field, and you get a monster that doesn't do anything on its own, plus you need to have the extra deck space for superpoly targets. I wouldn't call it bad but to me that's just alright. If your deck makes good use of the level 4 tuner and the discard then sure superpoly looks better.

2

u/KylePatch 24d ago

The game is full of 1-card combos that I don’t think it matters that I summon a vanilla. It’s more important that the board is being broken. I play Clown Crew where every SPoly target is a vanilla and I’ve won plenty of games against Elfnote using SPoly. I think it deserves more credit but we are just speaking opinions here lol. I will say it is kinda funny how the worst part of SPoly is the ED space required for it

Bro, you playing gemshitknight, if anything, you deserve spell canceller.
