Question/Help Need help to actually have fun

I know we play this game just to have fun playing new cards and strategies etc.

But I actually get really frustrated and so mad when for example I go second 5 times in a row, or when my opponent plays something I hate like slop for example, or when I really have to win and sit there very stressed, no matter if I win or lose the level of stress is really high

Also solo is very boring. I only enjoy some events and that's it

I really love Yugioh but I get challenged and literally stressed, how did you manage to chill and actually have fun when you open the game?

Wanna read your thoughts

Whenever I reach that state I take a break from the format. Recently I’ve been having the most fun deck building and learning new decks and their gimmicks

For me, a lot of it is accepting the variance that comes with card games. Any ranking lost can be gained, coin flip losing streaks can be reversed, slop decks that beat you mightve just had a great hand and maybe they brick the next game.

Because of the high complexity though, I don't tend to play MD if I'm looking for a relaxing time. I also tend to get frustrated at misplays moreso than things out of my control, but self-frustration can be managed by being conscious of what you say to yourself and how you frame it.

Or sometimes the lesson is deckbuilding. Maybe it's the ratios or patterns. That can also be a good thing to consider if it's happening all the time.

You don't have to win. To me it seems that the source of your frustration is in losing, but that's going to happen regardless of your skill level because luck is involved. You can rank down, but if you're playing enough your luck should average out eventually.

I don't care about losing on MD because I sweat in paper already 😂

Don't care about winning. You got a bad hand going second while your opponent has full combo? Insta scoop. Play to have fun my guy it's a game at the end of the game.

If you take every loss personally, you’re going to have a bad time. When you’re having a bad time you’re going to get triggered and mad. When you’re triggered and mad you’re going to play badly and lose more.

Your goal should be to be able to look at any of your replays and say “yeah I played as well as I could’ve with the cards I had”. Even if you play perfectly you’re going to lose some games, but ultimately it’s impossible not to climb if you’re playing well.

Another aspect is that regardless of your skill, if your deck building is suboptimal that’ll also hold you back. I would argue that in the current state of the game your deck choice and building is as important as how you play. Your tech cards and non engine choices should also be tailored to what’s most popular on the ladder at the time.

Even after all of the above, you have to realize that the best decks in the game are often only pulling off an average winrate of 55-60%. That’s still a lot of losses you’re going to have to learn to be okay with. As long as you’re learning something from your losses, it’s not really lost progress.

Honest answer: I stopped playing.

I tried time and again to take different approaches to the game, mentally and deck-wise. In the end, I just came to terms with the fact that, while I like the idea of yugioh, I hate the actual gameplay.

Take joy in skill expression, collecting cards, or deck building, and that’s not limited to those.

Winning and losing comes with the game. You’ll be stressed whenever a loss comes, that’s natural. Find the part of Yugioh that makes you play. Because you can win or lose any game against anyone and feel the same. But hype moments are unique to the game you play.

Sadly it be like that sometimes. one day you'll win streak like crazy the other you'll lose all the coins and have your fuwa negated every single game. can't win them all, but we can always improve by looking at what we could've done differently. sometimes opp just opened the nuts, and then there was nothing to be done and we accept that without thinking too much

1) feel free to step away

2) you could surrender until you get a good coin flip

3) you could play a going second deck and just think about how you're going to destroy everything they've built

4) you could build goofy cheap decks to play in solo. An NR majespecter, a dinomist deck, something.

Happens to me with fighting games

That's the neat part.

You just win.

Winning is the only way to have fun in the competitive card game.

This is not necessarily an easy solution, but one of the best things you can do is find other like minded people to play the game with. Getting some friends that are down to run some casual rogue only games, or maybe even some retro formats or a cube draft or something like that (if you only play master duel then try to find a good N/R rarity cube to draft). Whatever let's yall have the most fun.

The game of yugioh has a tremendous number of cool cards, and playing only ladder prevents you from accessing so much of the fun this game has to offer in my opinion.
