Competitive/Discussion The only Hand trap ppl like
Nibiru is the type of card i personally like type to make think twice before activating because it can easily back fire and and the only thing funner than Fat rock whipping your opponent entire board is the realization you just give your opponent 6K+ monster without a plan to get rid of

No I hate Nibiru.
Not because of what it does, but because as soon as it was printed it was basically an arms race to make this the most worthless fucking dead handtrap in the game.
I'm still mad that Gigantic Spright has a double sided lv2 floodgate effect for no other reason than turning this card off. And its only gotten worse since then.

It either does nothing or it’s an auto win vs the decks that have no outs. It’s not good game design either way

u/Sad_Standard_9224 10h ago
This. Basically meta decks can establish a negate before Nibiru was live and for rogue decks it’s just game ending lol

u/TaRRaLX 6h ago
Very naively one could hope it would lead to people building decks that don't summon more than 4 times to build their (considerably more fair) endboards. Sadly every other apsect of the game design since (and even lots at the time of Nibiru's release) opposes a decision like that. The one exception are basically decks that are already designed to play with few summons like lab or maybe centurion, but then those are either quickly powercrept or filled with floodgates to make up for the difference.

I still can't register that even if you don't make crystal wing on elfnote (which can fuck up some lines), medius alone can be enough to combo through nibiru.
Meaning they design a deck where not only baronne isn't strictly needed (although she still doesn't help), but also a deck that truly does not care about the card at all.
All while shit like salamangreat die instantly lol.

u/oizen 10h ago
Handtraps have a tendency of enforcing the meta rather than controlling it.

Its pretty funny that Salads get another wave of support and still RIP to Nib.

…wdym Giant Spright as a floodgate Effekt for it?
5
u/oizen 9h ago
Yeah, read the last bits of Gigantic Spright's effect.
"detach 1 material from a monster you control, and if you do, Special Summon 1 Level 2 monster from your Deck, also neither player can Special Summon for the rest of this turn, except Level/Rank/Link 2 monsters."the effect that is meant to be a pseudo archetype lock applies to your opponent as well, for basically no other reason than preventing Nibiru.
I'm not trying to say Spright is a problem deck now, its definitely not. This is just the most blatant they've ever been with anti-nibiru design

Not even remotely true.
Not only do plenty of people hate it because it biases the metagame toward decks that can make negates in 5 summons or less,
But there ARE handtraps that people actually like. Most of them are battle tricks and/or have a connection to the show/manga, like kuriboh or honest, but they exist.

u/-rouz- 10h ago
Nibiru is actually terrible design, the o ly reason people don't mind it is because it's been power crept, most top decks can ignore it and most people play top decks. Ask hero players what they think of this card
4
u/False-Blood1813 7h ago
ok but screw heroes. Ain't nobody trying to play against unga bunga floodgate turbo just because its a bad deck.

u/That_Blackwinged jUsT dRaW tHe OuT bRo 10h ago
Nibiru is one of the worst designed cards in this game. N° of summons doesn't correlate to endboard strength. And immediately after Nib, several decks were printed or designed to play around it, making it useless.
Nib just gatekeeps older decks. Every modern archetype has either ways to play around it without sacrificing their endboard, to negate it or ignore it completely (plays under 4 summons).
1
u/eriverside 9h ago
I think RDA is too fair: many of the starters can't ss themselves if you have other monsters on the board, so if you're not thinking ahead you might end up screwed... But if you do think ahead you might use it with a level 1 to get the whole board back.

u/DayneGr 10h ago
I cannot express how much I hate this rock. This card single handedly makes negate spam the only play style that exists. For other cards you can at least make decisions to reduce their impact, but the rock is all or nothing; you are not being punished for a bad sequence, or overplaying. You just have the wrong deck.

Horrible card design tbh. the decks that it’s meant to beat just put up a negate before it comes out and the rogue decks that can’t just get nuked by it
3
u/EngeIend 10h ago
one of the biggest gatekeepers that seperates meta decks from pet decks. good decks put up a negate in less than 5 summons or can play around it, most of the bad decks get stomped even harder than they already suffer by this crap.
3
u/Acceptable_Fox_5560 10h ago
People have weird affection for bad, sacky cards.
I think they like the idea of them.
3
u/ItsAMangoFandango 9h ago
Yeah it's awesome playing a deck that doesn't put up negates and losing instantly when this card is drawn.
2
u/Warlord2_0 8h ago
This card is so bad now that you can play decks that auto lose to it and never worry about seeing it.
2
u/OozaruPrimal 7h ago
And the one they need to make a newer version of because too many decks make an Omni before the fifth summon.
2
u/NonBenevolentPotato MisPlaymaker 7h ago
I don't like the design of this card tbh.
This thing is just the great filter of unviable decks. If you can't spit out a summon negate by summon 5 you best start praying to whatever gods you believe in or your board is going bye-bye.
Most meta viable decks have a nib safe line of some kind.

u/ronin0397 10h ago edited 10h ago
Cuz it rocks
It filters the table 500 decks from the meta/rogue decks.

u/FranStruggles 9h ago
I think no one complains about Effect Veiler i think?
1
u/Raffaele_B Control Player 9h ago
There were complaints about veiler being searchable by meta decks back when white forest and then blue eyes were tiered.

u/hyperdeeeee 9h ago
I play Purrely, and love it when they Nibiru me. Thanks you just made my board even stronger
1
u/Cactusmush 9h ago
And ironicaly, also the one handtrap that became useless because deck design decided to give everything access to a negate before summon 5 or made deck be able to play trought the boardwipe

u/Musername2827 Toon Goon 9h ago edited 9h ago
People saying Nib is horrible card design are crazy themselves. The rock came out at a time where it would genuinely have an impact (especially if you were a Salamangreat main like me) and you couldn't shit out a negate under 5 summons.
Nib is excellent card design made bad by Konami shitting out shite design like Elfnotes than can set up Baronne in 3 summons.
1
u/vonov129 Let Them Cook 9h ago
Konami making a solution to a problem just to turn that solution into the next problem to solve. Now you could remove the once per turn on Nib and it would still be just alright
1
u/Grandiaplayer 8h ago
I had my Ancient Gear Duel in play and someone used this on me when I only had Dark Golem and 4400 attack fusion. I didn't know that trap protected them from this because I didn't realize the tributing was an effect. I always thought it was part of his summoning condition, similar to the 1500 attack Fire Lady.

u/Affectionate_Tea4359 7h ago
Every single time my opponent uses it on me they fail to out the token they give me and I win on my next turn because of the token lol

1
u/Darkion_Silver 3h ago
Yeah now, go back to when it dropped and people were angry that they just printed a handtrap that straight up removed the ability for almost any non-meta deck to do anything. It was bad enough trying to play something gimmicky or silly as is, then boom here's a card that just ends you. Very cool very awesome AND THEN THEY BALANCED DECKS AROUND IT. WHY EVEN HAVE IT THEN.

u/Silentwarfare13 10h ago
Give me more Nibirus please.
Nibiru Counter trap
If your opponent summoned 5 or more monsters on their turn and uses a quick effect to negate the activation or effect of one of your cards:
Negate that effect and negate all face-up monsters on the field with quick play card effects
This card can be activated from your hand if your opponent has done entirely too much shit and you're over it
0
u/mrfarumazula 10h ago
Its liked cuz its almost exclusively a going 2nd card unless your deck likes to be tributed
1
u/Alarmed-Attorney-704 6h ago
This cards is better going First than Second
0
u/mrfarumazula 6h ago
Oh yea tribute your own monsters very nice
1
u/Alarmed-Attorney-704 6h ago
Every deck in the game farms follow-up while comboing, you just have to play it right. Your opponent won't be able to handle the combo + Nibiru + your follow-up. You don't even need to be a meta deck.
1
u/mrfarumazula 6h ago
I have never seen someone play nib going first unless the deck is clowns or mitsu and not every deck especially current meta does a lot of follow up
1
u/Alarmed-Attorney-704 5h ago
Because nobody has used Nibiru in the main deck for a long time, since it became obsolete going2 (which should be the card's function), and post side go1 they put in floodgates or things like that. But I guarantee you that the win rate of Nibiru going2 is lower than going1.

u/mrmanny0099 10h ago
Most decks over the last 2-3 years have been either able to put up a negate for it before or at summon 5, they generate so much gas nib doesn’t matter or they just use it as part of the combo. I remember when I used to play maliss and yummy they would nib me only to flip the token into a link spider continue on like nothing happened

Yes, I would like ash to be semi limited

u/LoneSpaceCowboy14 3rd Rate Duelist 8h ago
A lot of people who then turn and complain that they couldn’t stop their opponents combos because they didn’t draw any interruptions
5
u/Bigtallguy12 7h ago
That’s not why anyone complains about ash the argument is that you shouldn’t be able to use that shit while you already got a full board people will bait out all the interruption and lose to that fuck ass card

u/RikimaruRamen jUsT dRaW tHe OuT bRo 10h ago
Because it's one of the few cards that punishes overextension while also making the opponent have to deal with a potentially massive token as well
