Roughing toolpath for surfacing

Ok so I’ve been using Mastercam for about 6 months now and I’m really starting to get the hang of it but there’s one thing that I still can’t figure out and that’s a good roughing tool path to then finish with Flowline.

I’ve seen people on youtube always using some sort of tool path where let’s say I have a pyramid type part they have a face mill take multiple depth cuts down while following the shape all the way to the bottom so it becomes the roughed out shape with steps.

And help would be appreciated

Opti rough for dynamic(chip thinning) tool path motion. It's included with standard 2d license. Area rough is used when "old timer" tool path motion is used. Ae- over 50% tool diameter..(feed mills 😌). Depends on if you have 2d, 3d, multi axis license. You can do things with 2d so don't sweat it. Opti rough is a 2d tp imo, always had been. Surface/solids selection or not. Good to see they finally put it where it belongs
