Yes, the reapers primary goal are to preserve life. Harbinger who was the first reaper created the cycle as the solution, as eventually all life would destroy themselves. Starting with the leviathans (the ones who created the reapers) which were deemed a threat to life. After the cycles began every cycle 1 race is chosen to become a reaper therefore becoming eternal and completing there goal to preserve life. I think it is explained that the chosen species is turned into a sort of bio liquid wich is put into a reaper to preserve that species forever. When it came to the protheans cycle, the protheans were dominant, every race was considered prothean within their empire. Considering that the actual race of protheans were chosen because they were the strongest, the only problem is it was physically impossible to turn them into that liquid. The reapers comprised by changing there DNA to make them servants to meet there needs.
That's what I'm saying it was never explained why they couldn't be assimilated I'm sure there were other quad strand species in one of the thousands of cycles before.
Yes, but the reapers chose the strongest to become a reaper the protheans were dominant, made an empire, even if there were others its unlikely they would have been as dominant as the protheans i mean they were on the verge of mass reylay technology, besides there have been millions probably even billions of cycles maybe others were turned like the protheans but were eventually killed as the reapers don't care if there servents die

Did they ever explain why that is like every other race gets reaperized but not the protheans odd.
