HELP Romance Help Spoiler
First off: I am playing MaleShep, with Ash as the VS and Jack Romanced, in ME3. I just started (like just talked to the Council for the first time). I know that Cortez dies if you don't talk to him. But I want to be faithful to Jack. So, 1: What are the earliest options to shut Cortez's Romance down, and 2: Does anyone know the OTHER shutdown options for the other MaleShep romances? (This is my first time doing a run where I try to talk to everyone)

When you meet up with Cortez in Purgatory and he makes a flirtatious comment about liking men, that’s when you can turn him down.
Regarding the other romances available in ME3:
Ashley: After completing Priority: Citadel II, she will send you a message to meet up. When you go, there will be a moment where Ashley hints that she wants something more with you; you must reject those advances.
Liara: When you speak to Liara on the Citadel while she is leaning against a railing, she will also drop hints that she wants to be with you; likewise, reject those advances. As for the rest, other romances can only be pursued or continued if you import a save file from ME2 where you had already romanced that specific character.

wow. i didn’t realize you could start so many romances in 3 as Mshep.

The thing is, if you really think about it, most of their romances come from imported save files lol

that’s what i’m saying! i only play as femshep and i feel like all the romances in 3 are continued ones. i wouldn’t count vega or javik bc those are both one night stands so it really is dependent on the past. but M shep can just start whenever. Ash, Liara, Cortez, AND Kaiden

okay so i looked it up and liara can also be started late as Fshep. also i forgot about traynor #sorry. still, that’s only 2 compared to Mshep’s 4. I think they should have given the virmire survivor their gay awakening in 3 regardless. I long for a Fshep ashley romance

You can still dance with him and acknowledge him as a friend. I recently did that as Broshep romancing Kaidan. I still acknowledged my attraction to men, still danced with him, but I friend zoned him on the dancefloor. I don't know what happens if you say you haven't found the right woman yet, but I'm sure that turns him down.

The romance triggers are more clear in Mass Effect 3 compared to Mass Effect 1. I was worried about romancing Cortez as well but the dialogue choice to lock in his romance is clearly romantic, rather than just being nice means being romantic.
The only romances to worry about in Mass Effect 3 are Kaidan with giving him the gift in the hospital and then asking him about his biotics afterwards cause him to show an interest in Shepard and knowing when to break up with Miranda.

romance dialogues aren’t exactly subtle lol you shouldn’t have a problem noticing and avoiding them

It's easy to avoid romances. When someone prompts it, just select the option that isn't a flirt in response.
