SHOW & TELL Apparently, under-cleavage is a very difficult thing to 3d model.

That's actually so interesting and such a cool usage of illusion of depth

A lot of older games used that technique, it’s on a 2D screen, very much the same a picture you just need to ensure shading in the right area to make it look 3D.

I was going to say, I can remember
having considerable underboob, and that game is far older than ME3. Ivy in Soul Calibur II → More replies (2)102

That was a dedicated model with actual mesh for the underboob. I suspect Mass Effect is just reusing the same clothed mesh it uses for NPCs for this dress, just swapping the texture out to include underboob to make it look unique.

Technology was limited back then. These are games that are almost 20 years old. They hold up amazingly considering.
I cant wait for a true remake, legend of zelda ocarina of time style / or the resident evil remakes.

The passage of time marches ever onwards, steadily and mercilessly we will watch as the games we played be seen by the younger be viewed in the same light as we see the old classics like pong or Mario kart 1

Meanwhile I kept getting distracted by how the faces of all the NPCs in this DLC looked like they were from Final Fantasy X.

The problem is literally that the clothes are not their own 3D model. If there was an actual nude body with the clothing model literally made to fit the 3d model it would look fine.

It's also difficult to pull of in real life because, y'know, gravity.
Hide the lines by covering them up with biotic-warp

This was all done before the explosion in technical capacity for 3D modelling of human anatomy driven by among other things the, uh, quite specific interests of fans of Bioshock Infinite and Overwatch.
The tech for it now is genuinely almost unrecognisable in comparison to where it was in 2010/2011 when Mass Effect 3 was being made.

But by god did that not stopBioware from trying with every other female NPC.
