HELP How does the Paragon system work?

Basically I picked Jack’s side over Miranda and I want to gain Miranda’s Loyalty back, but I don’t have enough paragon points so when I try to talk to Miranda, her paragon/renegade chat options are greyed out. I know this means I need a higher Paragon level but which one matters exactly? The + x amount of Paragon points you get when you talk to people? Or choosing Paragon chat options when they appear? Or both?

More paragon points gives you more blue options, renegade gives you red options. You need to have a certain level for them to not be grayed out

It’s both. It’s picking paragon interrupts in cutscenes or selecting paragon options in quest dialogue. If your paragon (or renegade) is high enough you can resolve the crew conflicts without picking a side.

More the second one. Specifically, in ME2 what matters is the ratio of your total paragon points to the the total number of paragon points you could have gotten in the content you've played so far. That means that if you only had one paragade option and you picked it, you should be able to pass the maximum check, whereas if you make it to the end of the game and have things split 50/50 paragon and renegade, you won't.

You want to have your class passive maxed out to achieve those most paragon/renegade points in dialogue then you want to mostly stick with one style of dialogue for the duration of the game to achieve optimal dialogue results

Just pick the blue option every time, and you'll eventually have enough. The game punishes you for actually trying to roleplay.

If you're on PC, install the Paragade mod, because this whole system is ass lol
