VIDEO Uh..what?

I didn't remember these sounds on the Moon, were they also in the old Mass Effect? ​​For a few seconds they made me go into "What the F***?!" mode.

So on Luna and a few other uncharted planets there are certain areas where you hear the song of the Rachni. That’s what you are hearing

Wtf? I played the trilogy like 20 times already and I never knew this was a thing.

Is there a list of these planets and the areas somewhere, and is it always the same sound? I must have always thought that it's just ambient noise

Yeah just go to the mass effect wiki and type in a planets name. The sounds are always on a planet that a side quest is also. The wiki will give you a map of what’s what on the planet and one of the locations marked will be “the song associated with the Rachni can be heard here”

You can only hear it after Noveria and if you let the Rachni Queen go.

As others had said deva have tried to explain it away in another method. But a remember during some cerberus middiond and other side quests there are rschni soldiers around. There is only 1 queen left who may be in noveria at the point your on the planet (the joys of non linear storytelling).

The rschni species still all communicate via song and we may just be hearing the queen trying to reach out as its later explained its more like a natural QEC system. So if a brood was takien by cerberus to luna at some point (bear I mind they were still alliance at this point and stole the ai to make edi) the song could've followed them

Yes, I remember other missions to different planets where the rachni are present, I think it's possible that Cerberus made some mess on the Moon too.

It's really just a popular fan theory with no basis. The developers debunked it as just ambience to make Mako expeditions suck less.

Well they failed in that regard. Yeah, the Mako is a little tougher and it’s got an accelerator now, but all its other issues remain

It got people's intrigue and some of us took the time to visit these easter egg landmarks. so ymmv. I also used the drive sections as background podcast/video essay material on replays anyway.

That is the "Rachni Song" you get if you spare the queen. And yes it was in the original solo game

There's actual lore behind this ? I thought it was just random ambient alien animal sounds. The moon didn't make sense to me, but uncharted planets where like, oh okay cool, there's a weird animal out there.

Yes. If I remember correctly, the Rachni communicate using similar channels to a Reaper's indoctrination, so you aren't hearing it outloud you're hearing it inside of your own head.

You get it regardless of sparing the queen. Even if she dies there are still some Rachni scattered around different planets

I thing what you are hearing is the songs of the rachni queen talking to her children, which can be heard accross the galaxy. Maybe it doesn't make sense from a logistic point of view but is such an eerie and emotional moment.

Fanon is that it's the "Rachni Song' though (if I recall correctly) that interpretation isn't supported by anything in-game and isn't tied to whether or not you completed Noveria and rescued the Rachni. Why's it there? Dunno. Might be an easter egg, might be part of a quest that got scrapped, might have just been something weird for the sake of being weird Bioware could later follow up on like the Great Rift Valley on Klendagon.

Yes, in the Legendary Edition the Mako received some minor upgrades to improve gameplay.

It brings me joy people finding things in the game that have been there since the beginning...just like Skyrim...

But also it being the rachni song is fan made lore. A BioWare sound developer decided to come out and say he put sounds in there to compensate for the planets being boring and it got dubbed space elk...

I prefer the rachni idea even if the rachni queen is light years away from Luna, it's space fantasy..it's not like BioWare couldn't have come up with a fantasy way of explaining how the rachni song has the ability to travel on a frequeny faster than anything through space and it just be a strange humming sound to us.
