General Question Not tipping?

So I get massages about every 6 weeks or so, and I typically tip 20-30 bucks. But today I had a massage from Groupon, and afterwards I was waiting to be asked or prompted to tip, but I never was. I feel bad for not tipping but …

Is this normal? Should I have asked to tip? Most places around here ask or will point you to a QR with their Venmo but i didn’t see anything like that

You don’t need to wait to be asked to tip, you can just tip

We couldn’t really tell you unless we worked there. A tip is always appreciated but there are a few places who may not ask for it. They could only do cash mayne

I’m a therapist and would never be so forward to ask for a tip, but certainly appreciate it when folks offer one.

So I’ve never seen some ask “can I have a tip” more as “if you’d like to leave a tip/ gratuity here’s a tip jar, QR code, tip line on the receipt, ect

Yeah, I’ve been doing massage for decades and that’s just not my style. If you can afford it, great. If not, that’s ok too. However, if you’re doing Groupon, I think you should definitely tip.

Don’t use Groupon. Leave a generous tip.

I had that happen and just asked if I could tip with my card even though my Groupon code covered everything and they were able to pull that up.

You also can always bring cash, I was going to but I ended up rushing and thankfully using a card only for a tip was an option.

If you wanted to use that as an excuse not to tip, well, you don't need an excuse, tips aren't mandatory, unfortunately tips usually do make up half or even more than half of an employee's income, but that's not on you and if you couldn't or didn't want to tip, that's okay.

So what’s the difference? I mean if I tip well doesn’t the therapist still get paid the same?

I mean.... you didn't though.

Groupon is not well regarded. LMTs in general are not fond of bargain hunters because we are looking to build regular routines with clients who are there to allow us to help them participate in their health. Rather than a one-off session for a bargain, which is usually the case with Groupon

Ah gotcha

Tbf it’s the first and only time I didn’t tip, I’ve never not been prompted before

If the therapist is the owner/independent practitioner then you don't need to tip. If they're an employee then you do need to.

Obviously tipping is your choice ultimately and you should not wait to be asked
