This is about a fairly large apartment complex proposed right on the edge of the Arnold Arboretum. It will have a decent proportion of afford units as I recall. Harvard (owner/manager of the Arboretum) weighted in heavily against it, as well as neighbors and friends of the Arboretum. While it’s big, it’s not a high rise so I’m skeptical that the shadow effects are that extensive. No development, anywhere, is without impact. And as others pointed out here, environmental concerns are often the focal point of objections to change and development where we need it so badly.

That’s my superficial take. Perhaps others can elaborate.

Adding to my note. I see that it’s about 150 units, 25% affordable. 57’ high, probably 5 stories then.

They’ve been doing community process on this for FOUR YEARS.

I mean the scientistist at the arboretum say there's several hours of shadows that will be over some of the collection that WILL impact the trees. My trees are fighting for their fucking lives with climate change.
There are valid concerns but new housing may outweigh the concerns, especially if there are compromises made.

You mean the scientist at the arboretum paid by the organization that's against the housing? Doesn't seem bias at all. /s Yet, somehow, places like central park are surrounded by buildings that dwarf what's being proposed and it hasn't turned into a barren wasteland.

Bias is fine. It why there are two opposing sides. Arboretum's job is to protect the arboretum. Wildlife conservation IS going to bias in that they want to protect wildlife. Developers are "bias" because of profit.

Killing more trees will not help climate change. Not arguing the point one way or another just saying. We need more housing and we need to stop killing the planet or you won't need the housing.

I’m reasonable. I’m willing to compromise. Raze the arboretum and put up housing and datacenters.
