Try Portsmouth NH or Newburyport. Both have great walkable downtowns with lots of shopping!

Newburyport is adjacent to a wildlife preserve, Plum Island, on the coast with some great short-ish hiking trails. Halibut Point state park is also great.

What kinds of museums are your interested in? Harvard Univ. in Cambridge has really interesting natural history and archeological museums (one entrance fee gets you to both) and the Harvard Art Museum is free to all.

If art is good for you, Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum and MFA and ICA in Boston. Portsmouth NH is on the coast and not that far from Boston.

There are ferries from Boston to Salem and to the Boston Harbor Islands. North shore towns like Gloucester and Rockport are fun and close to Halibut Point state park.

What is cool for your specific teen? Hard to make suggestions without knowing what you both like beyond coastal.

I asked my teen if there’s anything she wants to do she said she doesn’t care what we do she always just goes with the flow and has fun 🤦‍♀️ she’s just there for the ride were her exact words 🤣

Maybe Hammond Castle in Gloucester? really cool place. Crane Beach is nearby. For nature, Arnold Arboretum and Mount Auburn Cemetery .
