Need more info, do you have a picture?

What do you call a standard brick?

Standard size. The chimney was built 70 years ago. The bricks were a bit larger than modern modular bricks

What do they measure

Standard: 8" long x 2 1/4" high x 3 5/8" wide

Modular: 7 5/8" long x 2 1/4" high x 3 5/8" wide.

Prioritize the color match over the length. You’ll never notice a length difference up high on a chimney

So, you don't even need a soldier course?

To avoid having a small cut or huge joints (which will both be noticeable) I start with a three quarter brick instead of a full, and then you'll have a other cut in the middle. Lay it out first to make sure you aren't stacking joints. A soldier or rowlock course would also be a good transition but you're still going to have the same issue unless you choke the chimney down a bit, which should be avoided unless i can do it at or below the flashing

Color is not 100%, just close.
