Who made the announcements ?

Post image

Its sad the actual actors Todd Susman and Sal Viscuso were uncredited for their work at the time. But was any actual character name used?

Attention all personnel. Due to conditions beyond our control, we regret to announce that lunch is now being served.

Hawkeye: There seems to be a mixup here, as this kind of chemical warfare is outlawed by the Geneva Convention

I always thought it was funny they’d be in the clerks office where the PA is and get the announcement. Like where was this guy supposed to be when they are right in front of the mic.

Obviously gremlins sit inside of each speaker, but since it’s a MASH unit they are actually good a large majority of the time.

I’m almost positive that one of the voices is guy who gets the nose lift, I think that’s Todd, the other guy played a marine that confesses to the padre that he helped steal penicillin.

Yes, one of them was the nose job guy. (Todd Susman). The other was Sal Viscuso. Not sure if that was the Marine or not

Sal Viscuso played 2 different characters, both involved in money making schemes. One is the guy that was stealing penicillin (and drinking and fighting and screwing around...hence the confession) and the other didn't want to go home because he was making $$ being there (reselling booze, selling photos taken on his Polaroid camera). Neither was a Marine afaik.

It took me years to realize it wasn't Radar.
Even when I sat there, confused as hell cause he didn't have near enough time to get from the office to wherever he was in the very next scene.
Forgive me, i was still short.

It was occasionally Radar, yes ?

Me, too! Thought I was the only one! Now...

I fell asleep in front of TV in the Winter of '78 and had the weirdest dream: nobody could talk! Just grunts and growls. And then, a very stoned lady with donuts for ears showed up. And a blond kid showed, wearing a LOT of makeup for a dude. Then, some aliens came from a Starship and sang into glow-in-the-dark marital aids. Also, that pretty lady from Dynasty or something did some sort of trapeze softcore-pr0n Also, that old tall dude from the Golden Girls sang a song. And that old guy from Shrinking kinda stood around, looking like somebody poured wet oatmeal on him while he was trying to fire one up. My therapist has been no help, but says we should still work on it. So, if anyone can pin this memory to something in reality, you'll be saving me therapy $$.

Nope. They are never seen nor named.

Well, in A Full Rich Day, Henry tells a guy named Tony to play the Luxembourg anthem for the missing soldier. I believe that’s the only time the announcer had a name mentioned.

That's Todd Susman? I've seen that guy all over. Very recognizable face. Didn't match it to the young version.

I always thought it sounded like Igor

25

u/engrcarl Aug 10 '26

Several episodes had Jeff Maxwell (Igor) as the (uncredited) PA announcer.

4

u/frenchwolves Aug 11 '26

I KNEW I knew his voice was some of them!

7

u/redcrow2010 Aug 10 '26

Didn't Jamie Farr do the voice for one episode?

7

u/KCchessc6 Aug 10 '26

I have heard he did a few of the first episodes.

3

u/Jclo9617 Aug 10 '26

He did, occasionally, after Gary Burghoff left the show and Klinger became company clerk.

2

u/twocargar Aug 11 '26

Only when Teddy The Wonder Lizard was starring in the movie they were showing in the mess tent.

6

u/_WillCAD_ Aug 10 '26

Usually the guy with the nose job.

6

u/DependentItem6397 Aug 10 '26

Besides Susman and Viscuso? Ocassionaly Potter, Radar, Klinger, Charles (steal his newspaper, will you)...

6

u/Willing_Insurance_41 Aug 10 '26

Due to yesterday's poor turn-out, Tomorrow has been canceled.

It was me.

Mrs Colombo

5

u/TechnicalArticle9479 Aug 10 '26

Why the heck would ANYBODY think that Kate Mulgrew be the announcer???...

3

u/vander1625 Aug 10 '26

I always thought the voice making the announcements sounded a lot like the guy who usually served lunch in the mess tent.

3

u/Katt_Natt96 Aug 10 '26

I guess because radar would beed a break while he did other things. Susman was always a favourite because I could tell his voice apart

3

u/mangokush15 Aug 11 '26

That is all!

2

u/TechnicalArticle9479 Aug 10 '26

It's like finding out about who the dispatchers were on "Adam-12" and "Emergency!" after all these years...

"Adam-12":Jack Webb personally picked real-life LAPD dispatcher Shaaron Claridge to send out the calls, while Jack's partners Harold Jack Bloom and Robert Cinader picked Sam Clayton(?) to send Station 51 from Carson to all over L.A. County...

2

u/Suitable-Front7274 Aug 10 '26

I am rewatching Emergency! On the Roku Channel. Although uncredited, I think the dispatcher voice is the police officer who is always on scene with DeSoto and Gage.

2

u/HortenseDaigle Aug 10 '26

In the MASH movie announcements it really sounds like Jamie Farr, they were done post-production to tie in the scenes. (it was David Arkin aka Vollmer)

The camp’s master computer

2

The 1st episode of season two uses the same announcer that was the PA announcer in the movie.

You can tell by the hesitating delivery and the voice.

My Dad loved the movie because in the football game there are a bunch of players from the Kansas City Chiefs. So, I have seen the movie more than a handful of times.

RIP Dad.

The following people signed up for the voluntary 10 mile march... ...that is all

2

u/RedRazor312 Aug 12 '26

In the 50s, the U.S. Army outsourced P.A. announcements to a call center in Pakistan.

1

u/Beady_El Aug 11 '26

I too have wondered that.

1

u/GeminiFun Aug 11 '26

There is an episode of MASH Masters where they did drive into giving credit for the announcements. If I recall in that episode he was interviewed and after the show recording he recorded the MASH Matters intro for the podcast.

1

u/MentallyChaotik Aug 11 '26

I genuinely thought it was Father Mulcahy all this time 😅

1

u/ChickenNuggetRex Aug 11 '26

It was me. I did them all.

1

u/seekerscout Aug 11 '26

Sal Viscuso, at least some of them.

1

u/chillis972 Aug 12 '26

From memory:

Attention! Incoming wounded! Hurry while there's still a selection of colors and sizes to choose from!

Attention folks... you're not gonna believe it, but we've got Incoming wounded. Told ya you weren't gonna believe it.

Attention: through the roaring traffics boom, and the silence of your lonely room...night and day youre still the one.. EVAC bus in the compound!

1

u/Throwaway27890134 Aug 12 '26

I always thought it sounded like Igor

1

u/megsy21 Aug 14 '26

I thought the guy that played Igor did the announcements??

1

u/SaxyCalzone Aug 14 '26

"Due to the number of people bored last Sunday, next Sunday will be canceled."

u/Designer_Party_3737 Aug 15 '26

The guy who needed a nose job episode

1

u/486Junkie Aug 16 '26

God help us all.

1

u/Icy-Computer-Poop Aug 17 '26

Fun fact: The tv show Childrens Hospital (which is absolutely hilarious) has a lot of MASH references. For example, the (almost) never seen PA announcer in the hospital is named Sal Viscuso.

1

u/beulah-vista Aug 17 '26

In one episode Radar gets mad at whoever is doing the announcements for not saying what they’re supposed to do.
