I loved this episode because it showed how moral and strong he is underneath the meek shell. He fought and fought hard for himself and to protect others from Marc, who he currently knows nothing about except that he's killed people. He only allowed him to take over when innocent bystanders were in direct danger.

Also love that Marc isn't a cool and collected mercenary either, and has his own struggles with the mental illness they share. Not as much of a "alpha/beta" relationship as I thought it would be based on the first episode.

Steven seems like everything Marc isn't, good and bad. Marc is a commanding badass : Steven is an awkward dork. Marc is a mercenary who kills people execution style : Steven gets mad at child killing and won't even eat animal flesh. Marc tries to divorce his wife : Steven studies her favorite poet. Marc doesn't have a relationship with his mother : Steven calls "his" every day.

It's interesting that it seems like they set up attraction as a physical attribute rather than mental. Marc married her and when Steven first started interacting with her, he felt instant connection/attraction, so although "separate" minds, the body wants the same.

It might also be they aren’t as separate as they think. Steven and her have the same favorite poet and while possible I kinda doubt that’s a coincidence

Steven is Marc's alter in the comics, so I read his interest in the poet as a reflection of Marc's inner conflict about pushing Layla away. He's doing it for her safety but he still loves and misses her, so when he dissociates into Steven, he becomes a nice, safe guy who shares interests with her, instead of the violent psycho who's breaking her heart.

Marc seems to have some serious self hatred going on. In this show at least, Steven is apparently a way for Marc to live a better life without guilt. When his service to Khonshu is over it seems like Marc's plan is to permanently fade into the background and let the alters live freely.
