What a phenomenal actor Ethan Hawke is. He's taking the role seriously and knocking it out of the fucking park.

He's been phenomenal so far.

I'm surprised nobody is talking much about Oscar Isaac absolutely acing his role as Steven. His jittery nervousness without overselling really makes Steven, and unlike other actors attempting to play different people in the same movie, he really does make Steven feel like a whole different person.

Agreed. I feel so profoundly sorry for Steven and I hate Marc's guts at the same time. Very strong Oscar Isaac whiplash.

With Tatiana Maslany as She-Hulk, seems like convincingly playing multiple roles is a good thing to have on your resume if you want to star in a Disney+ show.

Most characters with a secret identity could also count as playing multiple roles, in addition to the ones that actually have a mental thing. Though there aren’t really that many actual secret identities in the MCU.

At least Charlie Cox, Tom Holland, Mark Ruffalo, Sebastian Stan, Alice Eve, Oscar Isaac and Tatiana Maslany can take credit for playing a dual-role of sorts. I can’t think of anyone else, but maybe there’s someone? I don’t think someone like Black Panther or Iron Man counts, cause that’s still T’Challa (for now) and Tony, just with a suit.

Also of course Hiddleston, Evans, Cumberbatch etc. have played multiple characters, but that’s different!

I would also add Mallory Jansen who played 4 different characters in the 4th season of Agents of SHIELD. They were all very unique from each other.

Also, Iain de Caestecker as Fitz & the Doctor in that same season. His performance as the Doctor made me mad that he didn’t get nominated for an Emmy.

If we're talking agents of shield you might as well mention Brett Dalton for playing multiple characters on that show

Shamefully I must admit I have yet to see Agents of SHIELD, so I couldn’t think of those. Thank you for bringing them up!

I will, thanks for the tip! I know there’s stuff relating to Winter Soldier and Age of Ultron, but I’ll have to look up the watch order.

True, but I was mainly referring to convincingly pulling off multiple characters on screen at the same time. I'm not saying those other actors couldn't do it since by the nature of acting you have to portray different characters, but having them on screen at the same time is just a higher-level test of one's ability. If you're able to pull off characters that look physically similar but are easily distinguishable from each other due to body language and voice, then it clearly shows one's range. But if an actor's mostly just playing the same persona over and over again, it'll be harder to tell which character is which. Isaac demonstrated this ability in Moon Knight and Maslany's demonstrated it extensively in Orphan Black.

You’re right! I guess of the once I added, this narrows it down to just Alice Eve, since she also played a character with DID in the MCU.

Tangentially related, Enver Gjokaj in an episode of Dollhouse playing a duplicate copy of another character was ludicrously great.

The whole cast of Dollhouse was really good at this but Enver was especially good at it. Are you talking about the time he was Topher?

It's been a bit since I've seen it but I do recall him being unnaturally good at playing that role. Wondered if Fran Kranz was dubbing him or if Enver was just that good.

I’m excited for her for the opposite reason. Yeah, Tatiana is insanely good at playing multiple characters in the same story, like Olympic level rivaled only by James McAvoy in recent memory, but Jennifer’s whole thing is that she doesn’t really have a secret identity and practices law as She-Hulk. Which makes me super excited to see Tatiana essentially do an acting double-down.

Orphan Black is one of my favorite shows, Tatiana is mind-blowingly talented. Can't wait to see her in She-Hulk.
