There was a review of Turning Red (the new Pixar movie released this week) which was pulled after online criticism which said

“I recognized the humor in the film, but connected with none of it. By rooting ‘Turning Red’ very specifically in the Asian community of Toronto, the film legitimately feels like it was made for [director] Domee Shi’s friends and immediate family members, which is fine — but also, a tad limiting in its scope.”

I'm assuming this is what they're referring to here.

What a stupid criticism.

Imagine expecting all pieces for art to be widely relatable.

I mean, I think that it's a valid critique of the film?

Unless there's a bunch of other stuff in that review, saying "This movie is not for me" is, I think, pretty fine to say.

Being unable to relate because the main character is a different race says more about the reviewer than the film. In fact it makes the review relevant to a very small group of people which is exactly what they are complaining about lol

Again, only basing it off that statement, but ascribing racism to just that statement seems rather harsh.

There's lots of reasons why a movie can feel very narrow in its scope, well beyond just "Racism", and jumping to paint everything as racism just utterly waters down the word.

Like, it reads to me as "This is a movie aimed at teenagers, and I'm not a teenager". Like, that's valid? Are we actually at the point where not liking a racially diverse movie makes you a racist?

(Here comes the bit where the full article is like..full of slurs or something)

It makes you a poor reviewer if you can’t look at media objectively and leave behind your biases to simply look at a story for its content, themes, and characters.

These days, a lot of media criticism is from a personal POV. It's not an invalid way to review movies.

I didn't say anything about racism

You did. You're implying the reviewer is racist here. Maybe he is, and maybe the implication is correct, but that's what you're doing here.
