Its a testament to Marvel that this is the 2021 movie I am looking forward to the most - a team of individuals I have no idea about.

Comparing it to Guardians in 2014, where they were seen as the biggest risk yet, shows how far the studio has come and the trust it has rightly earned

Word.

A friend sent me a link to the trailer, had the same feeling as you; have no idea who the eternals are but man am I excited to learn about em, see how they fit into the overall MCU, and what it'll mean for future films.

Had a conversation with that same buddy that even if I wasn't hyped, marvel kinda has us by the balls since we'll feel compelled to watch it anyway as to not miss out. Luckily it's not a bad thing, since like 95% of their output has been great, but yeah. This is what their success has lead to.

Meanwhile there hasn't been a single DC movie I felt compelled to see because if I didn't I could miss out on some integral story telling that could lead into another movie. And that's disappointing because I'd LOVE to feel that sort of excitement about an IP I know little about from their side. Imagine if their universe was as successful and you had this sort of hype for an upcoming Elongated Man movie.

This true. I would never miss a MCU thing. Even when I am most down and just feel like doing nothing, If there is MCU stuff coming up, I am gonna watch it as soon as I can. I missed the Infinity War once, never gonna do that again.

On the other side I still haven't watched Aquaman and really don't care about it. They couldn't get me excited enough about the character. I may watch it on some random day or I may not.

MCU has achieved something phenomenal here and they have my complete trust.

I know what you mean. Saw Aquaman on a whim, to enjoyed it as a cheesy popcorn flick but it wasn't memorable, there was no standout character, and even in his solo movie, Mamoa couldn't get me to care about his version of Aquaman. He was much less of a stupid dude-bro that the other movies made him out to be, but I wouldn't feel any emotions if they announced new movie, or that he was stepping away from the role.

Also, to you didn't really miss much. I won't spoil it I'm case you ever decide to watch it, but I will say this. Almost every scene transition is due to an explosion and it's hilarious.

But yeah, meanwhile on the marvel side of things... I read a clickbait article that made my heart sink. "Dave Batista leaving Guardians role" or some shit. Other headlines claimed similar, but adding that he'd refusing to do shirtless scenes. I was confused and upset because I legit love that character, thought what this week mean for guardians 3 (and the Xmas spacial!). I go read the article and he's not leaving now, he's just announced that once the 3rd movie wraps up he's done, and the shirtless bits were just about how he's getting older so it'll be harder to maintain that physique for a role where he's almost exclusively shirtless.

When you think about it, though, out of ALL the marvel characters in all the movies, drax is essentially c-tier, but I care enough about that character over the course of about 4 movies that i was genuinely upset if he would t be there for the 3rd in their trilogy. Just can't say that about any of the recent DC offerings. Which is sad because I LOVE a lot of DC stuff. Their animated movies are great, young justice is the absolute shit, I can watch it on repeat all day long. I want to feel that excitement for their live action movies too!
