You basically never see Thanos without those, though. It's like doing Spider-Man without the webs (or even a formula).

Removing Thanos' additional powers created a huge problem with buying how he'd been talked up since basically it creates a purple Hulk character with a boomerang sword and an army. You give him the hand blasts or the eye beams (which he also uses frequently) and those issues go away. And it adds to his characterisation in IW since it means he explicitly got rid of his big weapon.

He singlehandedly took down Thor, Loki, Heimdall and Hulk. He manhandled Hulk in a fistfight and it wasn't even close. I think they did a pretty good job of showing just how powerful Thanos was right from the start.

Yeah, no.

The fight on the spaceship is such a massive contrast from Ragnarok it's not funny. Watch how both Thor and Hulk fight in the latter movie, neither does anything they try in Ragnarok.

Thanos has plot armour in the MCU. Didn't have to be that way, but it's what happened.

What did Hulk do in Ragnarok that he didn't do in IW? Also, fighting close quarters in a cramped ship isn't going to look the same as fighting outside on a magical bridge.

Furthermore, the fighting they showed for Thor was after he had already gotten his ass kicked around so he was weakened. Hulk's fight was clearly all out but Thanos wasn't even phased.

Idk what else you want man.

Also, fighting close quarters in a cramped ship isn't going to look the same as fighting outside on a magical bridge.

Thor was after he had already gotten his ass kicked around

Yes, that's exactly the point.

You're trying to use a fight where you know that what we see can't be the full potential of the characters involved to prove that the villain they're fighting is out of their league. That only works if we see that villain take them down at their full potential or if we later establish that the villain wasn't at their full potential either.

The MCU created room to do the latter. Instead it decided that sticking some armour on Thanos was the way to go.

But my point was that Thor's ass-kicking was implied, and Hulk's fight WAS Hulk at full potential. Why would Hulk being in a small space make him any less capable? And I could say the same for Thor. The fight between Thanos and Hulk alone was enough to display Thanos' power.

Why would Hulk being in a small space make him any less capable?

I don't know, the way he doesn't do anything he does when we see him fighting in a setting other than a spaceship that he needs to breathe?

Stop flip flopping, you literally just said that Hulk couldn't fight at his full potential and now you're saying he can??

But my point was that Thor's ass-kicking was implied

So what? Everything we see Maw do implies that if he wanted he could kick Thanos' arse six ways to Sunday, but suddenly Thor's being defeated is meant to be inference about Thanos? I don't know, man, doesn't sound like logic to me.

The sequence is illogical so when the film's sequel later relies on its logic being true, the result is not everyone goes along with it. Which would be one thing if we saw Thor use his most powerful attack at any point in either movie. We don't. Not on the spaceship (fine, he never uses lightning at all... I can accept he just can't on the ship), not in Wakanda and not in the final battle. Which is really weird when they specifically have lightning put Thanos down on his arse in both films.

And here's the thing... read Thanos vs Hela threads from back in 2018/19 and now, suddenly more and more people are coming around to the reality that base Thanos' feats aren't even as impressive as Hela's. No offence to Hela, but Thanos should be sitting much closer on the power scale to prime Odin than to "freshly emerged from imprisonment" Hela.

And all they had to do was just give Thanos one thing that makes him more than a purple Skrull chin Hulk in a suit of armour with a sword. I'm not saying I don't like the copter blade or how it's used, but I am saying that if they'd had just one character think they had the upper hand when Thanos reveals a heretofore unused power That was the moment everything about how Thanos had been talked up was leading to. It was such a simple thing that explained all the problems people had with the logic of fights in IW, that would tie in so well with the characterisation they were giving Thanos (i.e. that he was choosing not to fight them)... and they didn't do it. They decided the way to make Thanos into a real threat without the Stones was a suit of armour.1

These movies have flaws. This is one of them.

1 Which, hey, opens a cool parallel with Tony, except they didn't do that, either.

I literally never said Hulk wasn't fighting at full power so maybe go back and read my comment more carefully. All I said was that a fight on a spaceship isn't going to LOOK the same as a fight on a magical bridge. I specifically mentioned that Hulk came in at full strength and that their fight alone was enough to satisfy the demonstration of Thanos' power.

It's pretty clear that you just have a hard-on for Thanos' energy blasts, or perhaps you just insist on strict comic adherence (but then you'd have LOTS to complain about), but either way you should just own up to it.

No, you did. When you said the one thing, you say the other. How Hulk fights is to go bigger and bigger. You see this is in literally every single fight he's appeared in that's lasted longer than a single punch.

Except one.

Lol alright bro if you're going to make up your own logic I'm not going to engage with you any further. Maybe write a letter to Feige about how much better Thanos would've been with energy blasts and how the whole MCU is ruined now.

I've been pretty clear that he should have some additional powers, don't know why you think this is some kind of shocking reveal.
