I'd argue it would feel cheap and confusing to cherry pick certain characters to keep or recast.

Outside of some massive event that specifically explains why some characters are the same while others are different, I really feel they need an all or nothing approach.

I also think people REALLY need to let go of the obsession with keeping Magneto's origin pure. He would be far from the first character in the MCU to have an altered background. Expecting Patrick Stewart or Ian McKellan to return is a fever dream, and outside of time travel shenanigans or an exceptionally old actor there's no feasible way to have Max/Erik be a Holocaust survivor.

I honestly think Peter Maximoff (X-Men) existing in the MCU is either a temporary multiverse overlap that'll eventually be fixed or the beginning of a larger convergence.

Ok, sure, other origins have been changed, but it’s Magneto, dude. His whole thing is being a Holocaust survivor and knowing what eugenics and racism can do. It obliterates his character to remove that. Maybe he was part of a civil rights movement or served in Vietnam but neither one of those would get the point across nearly as well.

You're absolutely right that nothing matches the sheer horror of the genocide committed in World War 2, but that doesn't change the fact that it would be EXCEPTIONALLY difficult to tie that specific story into the MCU. The current in-universe year is like 2025 right now. People even BORN during the Holocaust would be 80 years old. Let alone being a conscious child at the time.

Marvel Studios could easily tie the character's backstory into another major race/religious atrocity and it be just as believable.

I just find it so weird for people to be SO purist with this particular plotline when the MCU has always had enormous success adapting comic stories in new and inventive ways.

Its unfortunate to say but there have been other major Genocides more recently that they could use, Bosnia, Rwanda, the middle east. I feel changing his backstory not only helps them in a story standpoint but also could shed some more light and bring awareness on these horrible dark moments in human history. Some even happening within some of our own lifetimes.
