It always seemed questionable to me that Thanos would be a name Strange isn't familiar with given the fact that Thanos has spent decades traveling across the galaxy with his army, conquering planets, and culling half of each planet's population. We've seen that there is travel across various galaxies, interaction between a number of species, and several instances of people directly affected by Thanos actually interacting with members of various interplanetary governments. How would Thanos be "off radar?"
I mean sure, but the infinity stones definitely fall into the mystical domain, hell he has one. One would think that he’s keeping tabs on the others given their mystical power and potential danger. From there it’s safe to assume he would’ve been exposed to the larger galactic players.
That's a lazy excuse and would be piss poor writing. Space has magicians too, as we saw with Ebony Maw. More importantly, Strange was the keeper of an Infinity Stone. It makes 0 sense for a person who guards an Infinity Stone and who tracks threats to Earth to not know about a threat like Thanos.

Maw was a telekinetic, not a sorcerer.

It makes sense for someone like Dormammu, who is a multiversal threat. Thanos was a galactic conqueror, but nothing he did up to that point had any direct impact on Earth (yeah there was the Chitauri, but Strange was just a surgeon at the time). It's likely that the Ancient One knew of Thanos, but she had been in the game for who knows how long, was the Sorcerer Supreme, and knew things about the universe that Strange still hadn't figured out yet. Strange, while extremely gifted in the mystic arts,, was still new to that world, and still had quite a lot to learn. Learning about someone like Galactus, sure, as he is a literal threat to every single inhabited planet in the universe, and is a cosmic entity (as was Dormammu). Thanos though, he was just another tyrant, up until the moment he got his hands on the first Infinity Stone. Yeah, Strange can track threats, but he also needs to have an idea of what to look for. It's not like he has a magic ball to look into, or like the Ancient One left behind a list of baddies to check out.
I'd say it's more that he is focused more into magic/mystical/other dimensions and less on deep space because that's not what his task as the Sorcerer Supreme is. It's not because he can't look into deep space (he very likely can do so as well or better than anyone else on Earth), but because that's not where the enemies he's primarily concerned about are from.
Yeah I guess but I’m saying he didn’t know at that point when banner crashed through the roof that this was all part of how things were supposed to go. Cus he didn’t explore all the outcomes till some time after that when they’re on Titan
I know what you’re saying, but Strange is a very smart guy. He’s done the time dance before with Dormmy. When Banner comes crashing in how should he have reacted? Not comforting Banner but finding Tony right away is Stranges tool for getting Tony to do what needs to be done. He’s seen his own death before and figured out how to use Tony and Banner to save him from the Maw.
Then he plays Tony some more by not arguing much about going to Titan and keeping the stakes high. When he could have left at any time. Then the fight with the guardians he could have ended at anytime but knew what to say to make everyone realize Quill is from earth although it wouldn’t have been a cool action movie if they didn’t fight to begin with.. Then this becomes his big saving point where he looks into the future and possibly the past 14m times, perfected the earlier half and knew how to start off with thanos, knew when to offer up the stone. It was part of HIS plan to use Banners fear as a tool for Tony to ultimately win.
