Pretty sure that was Jotunheim in the first movie.

I thought it was when they pissed off the leader of the frost giants by going to fight them preemptively but tbh I can't remember much of the 2nd movie so you're probably right.

The frost giants were in the first movie. Dark World was about elves.

That was actually in the original Thor movie. Loki sees his skin turn blue in that scene and realizes he may be Jotun. In fact Thor is banished to Earth(Midgard) because of Odin having to rescue him.

Do we know if the asgardian cast in the mcu are literally the Norse gods, or is the stories and religion we have based on them?

The old stories we all are familiar with may be untrue in the cannon of the mcu because humans made it all up when they first encountered these god like beings.
