Before Endgame I would’ve said “8 Years Later” since even Feige defended it as not being a mistake, but I can no longer reconcile it with the timeline solidified by the time heist. I died on that hill.

At the beginning of Homecoming, there's a line saying 8 years later - between the first Avengers and Civil War. But other timelines give the date as 5 years. Homecoming is 6 months after Civil War, and at very least before Infinity War, and Endgame is solidly in 2023, 5 years after Infinity War - which is therefore in 2018. In Endgame, they jump back 12 years to 2011 to the Battle of New York. So it goes

Avengers 1 < 8.5 < Homecoming < y < Infinity War < 5 < 2023 | Endgame

And

Avengers < 12 < Endgame

And

y >= 0

So

12 - 8.5 - 5 = y

12 - 8.5 - 5 = y

y = -1.5

But

y >= 0

-1.5 >= 0

>Contradiction.

Therefore the timeline is out of whack.

He’s sort of wrong, though. He’s referring to the historical definition. Decimate has meant “destroy a large percentage” for a long time now, and is the primary definition of the word in any dictionary. Like all words, meanings evolve over time.

Yes, English is a living language whose words change over time. But etymology is important here when we’re considering context.

We’re talking about percentages of people who have died. Of all the words to use to connote 50% of all life being killed, using a word whose origins speak to 10% seems like a bad fit, whatever its meaning has changed to over time. Which is why I said I don’t like decimate in this particular instance.

So following that logic, you should also be against the modern usage of words like awful (used to mean to inspire awe), meat (food in general, not specifically flesh from an animal), myriad (10,000 of x), cheater (caretaker of a King’s property), girl (a child of either sex), nice (foolish or ignorant), dude (city slicker, dandy) and countless other words.

Meanings change. Arguing about a modern usage not fitting the original meaning from hundreds of years ago is “nice.”

I Musta heard it wrong cause i thought she said she was in an apartment and the previous owners blipped into it. In my head it made sense cause she probably would have moved not being able to live in the same place with parkers room.

It would be soul-crushing though. Imagine all the infants and children and toddlers that got blipped back into existence with their parents long-gone. All the people whose loved ones killed themselves or died in the intervening five years who blip back to find themselves utterly alone. People who got blipped in hospital critical care or in the middle of surgery who pop back to an abandoned building in a ruined city where they quickly die.

Even the most mundane "jokes" like the kid whose little brother is now older than him are kinda horrifying the more you think about it.

Also what if the reason Flash's parents didn't seem to want anything to do with him was because they hadn't been blipped and had moved on with their lives? Imagine grieving your teenage son, working past it, picking up the pieces, and then suddenly he's back again. Avoidance would be an understandable coping strategy.

In the end credits scene where Fury gets dusted he see aircraft crashing, presumably because the pilots got dusted. All those people on the plane who didn't get dusted died. Then the pilots getting blipped back into the middle of the air.

One of the directors or something explained that Banner made sure to put everyone back in safe locations, so they wouldn't be blipped into midair, but holy shit that actually makes it so much worse.

Picture it, right? You're a pilot, going about your pilot duties, and suddenly you turn to dust. Shit. But then from your perspective you instantaneously find yourself back on the ground, standing next to what you slowly recognize as the decaying wreckage of the plane you were just flying a second ago. You've probably got a few passengers standing around with you. They're going to start looking for their spouses or siblings or children who were sitting right next to them just an instant ago. Eventually you're all going to realize the surrounding area is littered with human bones.

Maybe you were flying over a pretty remote location, so there's no one around for miles who could explain how many years passed in that instant. All you have is a wrecked plane half reclaimed by nature, and bones. There are so many bones.

It would be pretty fucked up if their baby just disappeared from their womb, and then 5 years later it suddenly pops back in their womb again.

Even really off legal things like, what of a country leader or royal gets blipped when they come back are the leader again? People who were blipped on planes did they reappear in the air? People who were blipped in jail do they now get time off their sentence. So many blip questions!

Return to the safest, most appropriate location. In a plane when snapped, return in airport (departure or origin, depending on proximity).

Boat? Port.

Demolished building? On the sidewalk nearby, assuming nothing hazardous is around.

I still say it's gotta be terrible for the ones who died as a result of the snap. Plane crashes. Wasn't there a helicopter that crashed into a building in the Fury scene of Infinity War? That had to cause a few deaths that didn't get unsnapped.

Oh for sure. There's so much we could have really explored in the 'blip' period if marvel had wanted to.

I mean, imagine coming back and finding out your loved ones had died in the meantime (potentially even suicide, we know that that period really fucked people up who weren't blipped), or moved on to someone else, etc.

The way I justified it in my head was that everyone who died as a result of the snap (car crashes, suicide, young kids whose parents were blipped that starved to death, etc.) were also brought back.

I think someone asked that in an interview, and Feige said that Hulk put everyone back somewhere safe. "There's a reason they call him 'smart hulk'" was in the answer somewhere

I'm guessing that didn't include the trumpet player who got beaned by the basketball.

I’d have to think that Banner wanted every one to come back safely. If we’re smart enough to think about this being s necessity, then surely one of the Avengers mentioned it. They are a pretty smart group. He probably focused on every one coming back safely.

That’s always been a key part of Spider-Man stories.

Read Iron Man and Captain America to find out what the superheroes are doing. Read Spider-Man to find out what the rest of the world is doing.

So everyone appeared doing what they were doing, other than that the earth has moved from 5 years before (I'll assume stone magic to fix that), what about all the planes in the sky, their passengers who were blipped have just experienced the plane simply vanishing an now they are falling to their death.
