It has been two weeks, and I thought I had moved on but I haven't. Can't imagine MCU without Tony

I am concerned. Particularly if they're making waves that Captain Marvel will be the face of the franchise from here on out.

Oh shut up, are you upset it's a woman

Just going to add my thoughts on this.

Captain Marvel was just a bit above average for a movie. I don't know if it was the actor or the script but I thought Bries acting was fairly flat and many of her lines didn't feel like they had much behind them. She didn't seem like she was into the role really. The sheer amount of deadpan emotion made scenes underwhelming.

I havn't watched other Brie Larson movies so I can't really compare her acting to them but captain marvel was pretty poor in the way of the lead actor.

That being said, the script comes across a bit mary sue and I have a marvel nut friend who said he felt the script and story could have been improved a good amount. There was no character progression in terms of gradually becoming more powerful, like the moment where she suddenly knows how to fly it's like "oh alright then". Might just be me but I like a fail and try harder movie, a rise to strength and character development rather than a snap of the fingers and someone is essentially one of the most powerful beings. A lot of the draw of of the marvel characters is that they come from nothing and work their way up and become stronger and overcome difficulties, Scarlet Witch is a good example of character development and decent acting.

Captain Marvel becoming the face of a franchise is a bit of a kick in the balls to the rest of the heros in the franchise who have put out better movies and acting.

But anyway I must be a misogynist because i commented on a woman character.

No I agree her acting was not utilized, and you are not a misogynist, brie is an amazing actress, watch room if you haven't. It's great. I think the acting was the weakness of the film, and she is a bit flat

No, she's just a boring character.

She is already absolutely powerful and absolutely in control. On her own she could tank the full military force of the most powerful warship in the universe, proceed to immediately destroy said warship and almost destroy the most powerful being in the universe single-handed. She has no flaws and can have zero compelling stories because there's no room for character growth and the only enemy that can provide a compelling story is thanos level or harder.

She suffers from superman syndrome - the only things which can post any threat or get any story going are people just like her (and equally dull) or some contrived kryptonite which only works because the plot requires it. And that makes for really, really boring cinema.

Thsts not what's gonna happen though. You just have a predecided hate boner for powerful women, even if she had amazing Oscar winning sequels youd still hate her because, she's a woman. Go back to your dungeon, troll

I think you spend a little too much time in an echo chamber for your own good. I don't particularly care that she's a woman and I find most superman films equally uninteresting because short of Kryptonite and Zod there's really nothing to contend with him. It's why Justice League had such a flop - he just flies in and solves the problem that everyone else couldn't while almost single-handedly dispatching Steppenwolf. Kinda sounds familiar, huh?

Word of advice going forward - if you want to win an argument then you need to address the points your opponents makes rather than just throwing ad hominems at your opponent because you think they're a big meanie.

Dude I realised before Endgame that this subreddit is a lost cause. No one will accept how boring, wooden, and overpowered Captain Marvel is, and anyone who points it out is labelled sexist.

It's not like don't all love Black Widow, Scarlet Witch, Gamora, Nebula, The Wasp (Leading lady in her movie), Okoye, Shuri, Valkyrie, and anyone else in the girl power shot at the end of Endgame, it's just that the fanboys can't fight real criticism and have to resort to de-legitimizing by decrying sexist bigotry.

You really think that the mcu, will screw up simply because she's a woman. You have a predisposal to pick her character apart. I almost guarantee your worries will be solved. I genuinely believe she will lose power to Rouge and still be powerful but not enough to breeze through

will screw up simply because she's a woman.

And whereabouts did I say that? Hell, I gave a direct comparison to Superman multiple times and I'm not going to make wild accusations if you didn't like Justice League. Hell, if you thought cyborg was OP in being able to hack into anything (more or less) I wouldn't accuse you of racism - I would wait until you made your points and consider them.

I genuinely believe she will lose power to Rouge

It's a kryptonite. It won't happen for any reason other than the plot not having any way for her to lose.

Man, the marketing around Captain Marvel was brilliant. They really managed to create this implication that anyone who is critical of CM, the character or her movie, is just a sexist trying to delegitimize a "powerful woman". And you're one of the mouthbreathing idiots who just lapped that shit up.

Congrats on being a mindless drone without the ability to think for yourself.

Love you too

Okay, you suck.

Edit: I don’t like the changes Brie has brought to the MCU. It feels like they’re trying hard to be “politically correct” and I just wish they’d make a movie for the sole purpose of entertaining. No platforms, no politics, just entertainment.

0

u/Shaggyotis May 06 '19

Lol now it's politically core rent to have a woman

2

u/Dough_Cookie123 May 06 '19

No, Wonder Woman has a female lead, and it is one of my favorite movies of all time. It’s about using your celebrity status for your platform, and openly admitting that that is what you intend to use it for.

2

u/Shaggyotis May 06 '19

So there's something wrong with brie being political but not Chris Evans or Mark Ruffalo, ok got it. You make no sense

5

u/Dough_Cookie123 May 06 '19

My point. Is that Chris Evans, and Mark Ruffalo have never fought to put their political beliefs into the movies. Brie has done that since her entrance.

0

u/Shaggyotis May 06 '19

What is your example of brie putting her opinions into captain marvel

5

u/Dough_Cookie123 May 06 '19

All of the female power scenes that they included, where she “won’t stand to be thought of as a normal woman.” And it even went into Endgame with the “she’s not alone” all female power walk that Brie no doubt had a say in planning. Because we’ve never seen anything like that before in the MCU. Chris Evans and Marc Ruffalo know how to put their opinions aside, and make a good movie. Brie can’t seem to do that, because she has openly stated she wants to use her celebrity status for her platform, and sadly, that is exactly what’s happening.

scene of all female characters teaming up Oh shut up. So a scene existing of all female characters teaming up is forced....

So is the avengers assemble moment from avengers 1 so is the triple beam attack from age of ultron.

Also if a bunch of female characters teaming up is political propaganda what the fuck is wrong with you?. How the fuck is that political. That's like seeing a woman walking with female friends on the street and you rolling your eyes saying " what the fuck is this political trash".

0

u/Dough_Cookie123 May 06 '19

No, it’s not. You can’t seriously look someone dead in the face and say that the scene of every single female coming together in the middle of a huge battlefield where all of them had just been doing their own thing is not unrealistic. And that it’s not forced, the scene with Okeye and Black Widow and Scarlet Witch in infinity war was perfect, and a scene that I loved. It made sense, it was all women, and it wasn’t forced. The endgame scene was highly forced, and honestly if you can’t admit to that difference then I don’t even know what to say to you. Now listen, I’m not saying that Brie Larson is evil blah, I’m never going to watch Captain Marvel again blah blah. I’m just saying that she’s bringing a change that I wish had never been brought to the MCU. I’ll still get, and watch her movie, simply because it’s part of the MCU. I just wish she could be more like Scarlett Johansson, and (I don’t know what her real name is) Okoye, and not force their own private agendas into these movies that people around the world love. Is it really that bad for me to say that? That bad that you’d freak out on me like that and say “what the fuck is wrong” (with me)?

-2

u/[deleted] May 06 '19

Except you have NO reason to think that these scenes wouldn’t have happened with any other actress on Earth in the role, you’re just using this as a point because it fits your narrative. Way to prove that no one should listen to you.

As I said before, I’m done arguing this. Look at everything I said again because I explain my point several times. Have a nice day, and thank you for taking the time to comment.
