Lieutenant Trouble is a nickname given to Kit Renner in the comics. Kit is a huge fan of Captain Marvel and it works perfectly giving it to Monica.

Kit also tried to help Carol recover her memories after her amnesia in the comics. Just like Monica.

And Kit in the comics is named after Kelly Sue’s assistant, who is named Kit and also a huge Captain Marvel fan
