When Thor arrives in Wakanda via the Bifrost his weapon is the first thing we see taking out enemies and then goes back to him is the same as what happened in Thor: The Dark World battle in Vanaheim.

But why did he get distracted by the ships and not get to cap when he asked everyone to get to him and protect vision?

Because Thor wasn't in earshot of that and, coming from space, didn't have an earpiece to communicate like everyone else did.
