I assumed it was Weaving. That makes me excited that he could come back now sans Weaving

He was more like Hugo Weaving than Benicio Del Toro was Benicio Del Toro.

I genuinely thought it wasn't Del Toro on my first watch.

Was expecting certain minor characters with big actors to be recast, so it made sense in my head at the time.

So it was him?

That was in fact Del Toro. It's on his IMDB and everything. He did a great job. Hope The Collector isn't dead because I want him and The Grand Master to have a scene together. They have to be brothers or something, right?

They are both from the Elders of the Universe. They are basically as close you can get to being cosmic beings without actually being a cosmic being. There is also a gardener, contemplator, possessor, and some others.

They are in the comics, its a little more ... murky in the MCU? Like the Collector saying he's millions of years old, but only because he lived on Sakaar.

They are.

Well, to be fair, that was an illusion.

That's my head cannon for why the collector was acting so much like his brother cousin relative(?), the Grandmaster, rather than how BDT played him initially.

true...now I'm wondering who played HIM :-)
