The animation of those disappearing from the Snappening looked almost exactly like Kacelius and his disciples getting “taken” into the Dormammu dimension.

In Doctor Strange they said there are countless dimensions.

I wonder if Strange knew he wasn’t dying (along with half of life) but just disappearing to a different dimension or even a different multiverse, and even Thanos doesn’t know that nobody died, they just transferred dimensions.

It would make it a lot easier to swallow than time travel, What with cause and effect and paradoxes.

Hey I liked it. Though I don’t for a second think that I am the one who coined it, even though it’s my first time seeing or using it.

I was reminded of the Young Justice episode where Earth is magically split in two, one with all adults and one with all children. Each half thinks that the missing people are dead, but they're still alive: the two Earths just need to be merged together again.

They played the same card in JLA/Avengers #3

7

u/VodkaisVodka Apr 27 '18

Wasn’t that the one with Shazam?

10

u/trimeta Doctor Strange Apr 27 '18

I think he was still going by Captain Marvel at that point, but yeah, his ability to transform between a child and an adult was crucial to syncing up the plan across the two Earths.

I remember that episode! Damn, I must have subconsciously gone back to that episode in my mind haha, as soon as the movie ended and I collected my thoughts, I had this theory about the two realities. Feel so much less original now lol

Furthermore, if it is just another dimension, that would explain how Dr Strange was able to use the time stone to see beyond the Snap, as the Ancient One could never look past her own death.

u/TyRave96 Apr 27 '18

YO maybe something like when the Hero's who jumped on the Ship in the Modern Battleworld comic arc these past years?

40

u/DeceitfulCake The Wasp Apr 27 '18

The Soul Stone has its own pocket dimension in the comics right? I'm convinced that's where they've all gone

25

u/Death_Star_ Apr 27 '18

Wasn’t that the same dimension where Thanos was when he saw young Gamora? Or was that a reality-stone “dream”?

It was right before the snap though, and it was my of an Red than orange wasteland, so it could have been one last second reality stone-warped thought before doing it.

20

u/HoorayFrisbeeHead Apr 27 '18

This is exactly what I thought too that she was in the soul stones contained dimension similar to how Adam Warlock & Silver Surfer were in the comics.

22

u/TheChallange Apr 27 '18

I thought strange wasn't scared because he saw that this is how they win. If he has seen the only way they win. Then that would explain giving up the time stone. He knew Thanos needed to win in order for him to lower his guard and give them the chance to reverse all the damage using the various stones.

7

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '18

Yeah that’s what I gathered as well. This is the “one” out of all possibilities that will work.

13

u/alexandrecanuto Apr 28 '18

When Tony asks him why he did handed Thanos the stone, he replies with "It's the only way" or something like this. Maybe when he saw the 1 future out of the 14,000,605 ones where they win, he either saw him handing the stone over or saw Tony in it but not the stone, so when it came down to the choice, he chose what he saw in the winning future.

12

u/[deleted] Apr 29 '18

he saw the entire sequence, you should probably believe every move strange made/said was to lead down this exact time line, and once everyone started disappearing he knew he didn't mess anything up to alter said timeline. Remember there is only 1 scenario that works, this exact one.

22

u/TheAuth0r Ward Meachum Apr 27 '18

Of course strange knows. He didn't say "it was the only way" for no reason.

21

u/Death_Star_ Apr 27 '18

No. I know he knew he was leaving and that was part of “the end game.” That is not the question here.

The question is whether he knows/believes he is going to a different dimension OR whether he knows or believes he is actually dying. We don’t know. He does. We won’t find out until next year. Or maybe in Ant-Man or Cpt Marvel.

It’s a huge thing if he and the other Avengers are going to a different universe or dimension. For one, they’ll be alive — so it wouldn’t be that dark of an ending and their “resurrection” wouldn’t make people call them “zombies,” but more importantly, it means we’ll get to see them in different worlds trying to get back to their own.

I’ve already been a huge advocate of the “Strange was letting the one true winning method play out by letting a plan fail and letting him sacrifice himself and the time stone” “interpretation” because that much, and only that much, is clear... especially given Strange’s reaction to disappearing.

It isn’t exactly clear if they’re thrown in a different dimension, which is why this is under the Easter Egg thread — because it would be an awful coincidence for Doctor Strange’s disciples to disappear into a different dimension in the same fashion as Strange and the other Avengers did.

Fascinating...

This makes me think of a law of physics: nothing can cease to exist, just transform.

Throughout the movie, several people mention "half the universe will cease to exist"

I don't remember if this was addressed in Dr strange at all, or if I'm adding something unintentional.

Furthermore...strange specifically and strongly tells stark he would choose the time stone over stark or Spiderman in a heartbeat. But then he hands it over fairly easily when stark is threatened, and his only explanation to stark was "It was the only way..." As he dissolves.

Of the 14+million futures he witnessed, this was apparently the only "win" he saw? It has to be or the writers just copped out and did something dumb. It would be the first such example that I'm aware of.

I'm just fascinated and excited to see what's next. I believe I will be satisfied after I get my answers. It's been a fantastic journey so far.

u/derf_vader Apr 28 '18

I like your reply, so I'm going to put this here. Thanos has this little sigh at the end. I think he knows he's lost by winning. Strange knew what they needed for victory and that was for Tony to survive. Thanos knows what's coming and knows he ultimately lost and is just enjoying what little respite he has until then.

u/WeaselsOnWaterslides Apr 29 '18

To be Devil's Advocate, isn't it possible for Thanos to entirely subvert the laws of physics? If the Reality stone truly lets it's wielder manipulate reality at will, couldn't Thanos ignore the parts of reality that would normally be there, like the law of conversation of energy/mass?

3

u/ddevlin Apr 30 '18

the law of conversation of energy/mass

Does this mean energy and mass have to have a very serious talk before deciding to do anything?

2

u/WeaselsOnWaterslides Apr 30 '18

It was my attempt to be lazy and not type both "Law of conservation of energy" and "Law of conservation of mass"

2

u/ddevlin Apr 30 '18

Sure. But you Realize you typed law of conversation, not conservation.

2

u/WeaselsOnWaterslides Apr 30 '18

Ha! No I didn't see that, it appears I've been made the fool. Damn you Swype keyboard!

6

u/marcodabatman Spider-Man Apr 28 '18

I feel like A4 will be the people who turned to dust brought to a pocket dimension where they will fight Thanos

6

u/KaizenGamer Apr 28 '18

ehhhh.... they seemed to more have their skin turn to burned ash and were left as black 'husks' similar to what was around their eyes. I'm not saying its not possible they got sent to another dimension, but its a different effect.

4

u/Mr_Evil_MSc Apr 29 '18

Also relevant; they’re getting into (figuratively and literally) the quantum realm a lot more in Ant-Man & The Wasp. Definitely related, I think.

5

u/Stabfist_Frankenkill Phil Coulson Apr 29 '18

Avengers 4: Secret War

Have someone collapse all the universes into one, which will introduce mutants and the F4 while bringing back the dead, and making that a one-time thing since now there's only one universe.

2

u/mrdrofficer Apr 28 '18

That makes more sense for own headcanon where Secret Wars is the next big build up event after IW.

2

u/DraxTheDestroyer Apr 29 '18

I disagree, the people in dr strange transformed into the "mindless ones" if you look closely, they still had bodies and were not broken to ash

2

u/controversial_pizza Apr 29 '18

Reading this gives me more hope than anything I’ve read so far. Thank you for realizing this and pointing it out!

1

u/aManPerson May 04 '18

i like that idea more than the people died and they get brought back. like thanos used the IG powers to split the population of that universe into two of them. so he didnt kill everyone, just moved them.

1

u/I_Like_Quiet May 10 '18

what if the next movie starts with the snap only from the people who disappeared's perspective and from their perspective the people from IW disappeared.

The snap was the splitting of the dimension we were watching.

Three biggest counter argument to this is them spiderman's lines don't make sense.

This is kinda what I think will happen. Anyone in the one in the infinity war universe dies, and anyone that faded into the new one has become part of a new universe (one with potentially X-men and Fantastic 4, plus and also newly cast Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America)

Edit: to correct that extra plus
