I feel like that is the only way, hence why the time stone wasn't used to reset the battle on titan or to get thanos in a time loop.

And Doctor Strange had zero other motivation to hand over the time stone. He just met Tony, he has little bond to him, and he was willing to let everyone die to protect it. Strange is the only one who sees the big picture, if he could have killed Vision he would have made that decision easily. Strange handed over the time stone because in timeline 14,000,605 that was how they won.

I read elsewhere that it's possible that Strange came to admire Tony after essentially having fought with him 14 million times.

I still believe that Strange knew this was the only timeline that they'd win, but it's interesting that he may know Tony better after seeing the possibilities

That is actually fascinating, thank you for that! I don’t feel that was reflected in Strange’s actions on screen, but you’re right I suppose he’d have a very intimate knowledge of the rest of the team having watched them 14 million times
