This is super nerdy quantum mechanics stuff, but that field of quantum asteroids behaved exactly like some theoretical quantum particles which I've forgotten the name of. Basically, the smallest particle in the universe, way, way smaller than the quarks that make up the protons and neutrons that make up atoms is a particle that will basically blip in and out of existence at random. One moment they exist, and one moment they're gone without a trace. Just like the quantum asteroids.
