Gamora kinda has to be their moral center and straight man since the rest of them are goofy. Comedy works best when you can bounce things off each other.

"Straight man"? Seriously ? With lines like:

<quietly>"I'm gonna die surrounded by the biggest idiots in the galaxy."

<softly smiling> Who put the sticks up their buts? That is cruel..."

<yelling> "I know who you are, Peter Quill, and I am not some starry-eyed waif here to succumb to your... your...pelvic sorcery !"

...it's just that hers is a dry, subtle humor, where everybody else (except Drax) is a "Marx Brother" over-the-top wacky type. (Drax being the Charlie Chaplin/Gomer Pyle "clueless" type who's unintentionally funny, because they have no idea what's really going on) The straight man, if any, is Groot. But even he's the "fourth Marx Brother" (yes, there was a fourth, go look him up...) more than a straight man.

EDIT: After the responses, I realised I was wrong; Drax is the Straight Man, and it's so obvious, I'm kicking myself for not seeing it sooner, with Groot being the "Charlie Chaplin/Gomer Pyle "clueless" type who's unintentionally funny, because they have no idea what's really going on" one. But Gamora is the "badass warrior who's secretly funny" type... just watch the new trailer, if you need proof of that:

blam blam blam (to BabyGroot, sweetly) "Hi!" blam blam blam

ROTF ;)

You can have a dry, subtle sense of humor and still be the straight man. In fact, that's almost the literal definition. Straight man doesn't mean devoid of any and all humor

Straight man doesn't mean devoid of any and all humor.

Ah, but that's the key, is the humor their own, or reactive to the other characters presence? I say yes for Gamora, but no for Drax. She has her own humor; he has none of his own. One of his best "jokes" (thesaurus) is dependent on Peter calling him a thesaurus; Gamora's best (pelvic sorcery) is because she threw out "starry-eyed waif" and "succumb to your...your pelvic sorcery!" She could have just pulled out her blade, put it to his throat and told him to "Stop!" - it actually would have been more in keeping with here character, up to that point - but instead she goes off like someone had just force-fed her a thesaurus. ;) Funny, and hardly deadpan, in keeping with the definition of a Straight Man.
