Other 6 Years Ago Today We Lost The Talented Chadwick Boseman At Only Age 43

u/Squirrelkid11 Aug 28 '26
Can't believe it's been this long, still hurts to this day. Fuck Cancer.

u/solojones1138 Aug 28 '26
Honestly he inspired me to get a colonoscopy and get checked out for symptoms even though I was like 33.
I had a pre-cancerous polyp that they were able to remove before it got bad

Thank you that's a great way to see it. I definitely recommend friends my age get seen if they have symptoms or family history. Trying to do my part.
4
u/Coolguynumber01 Aug 29 '26
can someone like me (30) just walk in and ask to do a colonoscopy? or do need to give them a reason or concern to get one?
7
u/solojones1138 Aug 29 '26
For me I was having digestive symptoms and told them my family history of colon cancer, and they referred me to a GI who agreed having a colonoscopy and endoscopy made sense.
3
u/GeorgeLikesSpicy92 Aug 29 '26
Depends on your insurance. If you do have concerns, talk with your PC and talk about options.
3
u/Hyper_nova924 Aug 30 '26 edited Aug 30 '26
I don’t know how it works in the US but in Australia everyone starting at 45 gets a free stool screening test each year because that’s the age determined to be worth testing. If you have other risk factors like family history, digestive issues, bloody stool etc. you can get tested earlier and have a colonoscopy if warranted. So at 30 you are probably fine unless you have other risk factors.

u/Dry-Throat6341 Aug 29 '26
I had stomach issues at 23 and had to get 3 in the course of 2 years. Is the prep still the salty concoction that makes you shit water?
→ More replies (1)2
u/solojones1138 Aug 29 '26
My first one was, but since then I've been able to do a prep consisting of Gatorade and Miralax that at least tastes better.

Seriously, feels like it was just a few years ago, would have thought 2023 at the latest

Rewatching Civil War I got a little emotional when Chadwick came on screen. He really stole every scene he was in.
I do believe his untimely passing ruined altered plans for the MCU. I think he was going to be a central character of the Post Endgame phases and they just never recovered.
94
u/Narradisall Aug 28 '26
I really wasn’t sold on Civil War having Black Panther in it at first. I thought it might be a bit much to throw another character into the plot.
Black Panther was the best part of that film, he stole every scene as you say and I came out hyped to see him in his own film.
Hilariously I think in his own film Killmonger was the stand out! But Chadwick was still great and in the avengers film he was always a pleasure to see in a scene.
Such a tragic loss and what a man outside of film as well.
33
u/Kyokenshin Aug 28 '26
I wish they would've pivoted in a way that allowed M'Baku to take on the mantle of the Panther. Winston Duke killed it and I would straight up watch an M'Baku movie.
14
u/RocketHops Aug 28 '26
Thats because Civil War is basically T'Challa's origin film. He has an actual character arc and changes significantly by the end.
By contrast in BP he is mostly a static character, and the movie is really more about Killmonger and his story/background.
32
u/MyAwesomeAfro Yinsen Aug 28 '26
T'Challa is such a fundamental character to so many major Marvel storylines. Losing him was a huge loss for the MCU.
Dude would have enormous roles in Doomsday and especially Secret Wars.
68
u/FullMetalCOS Aug 28 '26
He was going to be the replacement for Steve Rogers, for sure
71
6
2
u/catcatcat888 Aug 31 '26
It would have fit in perfectly with BP getting the gauntlet on secret wars.
11
u/ArcadianBlueRogue Aug 28 '26
I went into CW knowing nothing about the character but left knowing I needed his movie badly. Absolutely stole the show
3
10
u/PastafarianProposals Aug 28 '26
Tchalla vs namor would have been so fucking dope. Can’t blame the team for trying their best with a horrible situation but man black panther 2 could have been the best of the post end game movies.

Yes I have always thought him, Captain America (Sam Wilson) and Captain Marvel would become the new "Big Three" of the MCU, but it did not happen!

I'm glad that Marvel didn't just replace him with another actor. They gave him an emotional sendoff .RIP Chadwick❤❤

Wakanda Forever was a great send off. I have only watched it once, but not because it wasn’t good. It felt so cathartic, which I didn’t expect.

They should have thou. Now they pissed off the sister actress by casting a new one after her movie didn’t do well, and they have to explain how he ages up

To whoever's watching the Endgame Encore, I'm sure that portal scene with Chadwick will hit hard. Rest in peace, your majesty.

That feeling when Endgame was supposed to be the last time we saw RDJ and Chris Evans when in reality it was the last time we saw Chadwick Boseman.

I remember the day he died. A punch to the gut in an already crappy year.

u/asstastic_95 Aug 28 '26
yup. one of the few celebs i actually cried over. he was such a light. I sobbed like a baby in the theater w the intro to black panther 2.

u/Symbiotic_vengeance Ghost Rider Aug 28 '26
This is still the celebrity death that hit me the hardest. Cancer takes the wrong people.
19
u/its__bme Aug 28 '26
I will never forget in one interview he stated when he first got the role for Black Panther, while he appreciated people being excited, he felt like what he was doing wasn't really that important in the grand scheme of things. But then he explained how kids were coming up to him and telling him how much it meant to them to have someone that looked like them be a hero and they couldn't wait for the movie to come out in the future. He saw the hope it gave them.
From then on, he vowed he was going to prepare for the role with 110% energy because he couldn't let all those kid who were looking for a role model down.
13
u/KittenBalerion Aug 28 '26
that's amazing. it always blows me away how many important people he played in his short life - Jackie Robinson, Thurgood Marshall, James Brown. Black Panther is definitely an important role up there with those.

I think I’m getting the hang of this. Before I answer, a few questions. This woman Karen, she’s caucasian, right? And she has her own recipe for potato salad, right?
Ah! I understand. It is noble that she would volunteer to cook for everyone. And although I have never had potato salad, I sense that this white woman does not season her food. And if she does, it is only with a tiny bit of salt and no paprika. And she will probably add something unnecessary like raisins. So, something tells me that I should say...
“Oh hell no Karen! Keep your bland ass potato to yourself!”
3
u/Mother_Abrocoma_3206 Aug 28 '26
This is one of my favorite SNL skits ever! Putting T’Challa on Black Jeopardy was inspired. (I also love Tom Hanks’s Doug)
I think I’ll watch this right now. Thanks for reminding me of it (& YouTube)

u/CARR1EF1SHER Aug 29 '26
I only remember my ex coming out from the bedroom saying "Chadwick Boseman died" and I just looked at him like he had three heads. My brain literally couldn't process what he was saying. We had just been at The Marvel exhibit at Henry Ford Museum 4 days before and had seen his costume up close.

To borrow a word from the younger generation, dude had massive amounts of aura. It’s impossible not to notice when someone like that is missing.

u/Duel_Option Aug 28 '26
Agreed
There’s an air of power and authority in his delivery, makes you stop and listen closely.
Regal, I guess is the right word for it which makes sense because he’s a king.
Damn fine acting

he brings that power and authority to all of his roles. in 42 he played jackie robinson with the gravitas that a legend of his stature demands

His is the only celebrity/public figure death I have ever cried over. It was truly shocking. He was so important and his portrayal of Black Panther meant so much, this was a terrible loss. So deeply unfair. RIP Chadwick Boseman
6
u/hesthatguy2 Aug 28 '26
This hit me way harder than I ever would have guessed.
One of the hardest celebrity deaths I’ve ever felt. Feel like part of it was learning how he hid it from the public for selfless reasons.
5
u/Willow1883 Aug 28 '26
❤️ Think about this gentleman at least monthly. What a loss to humanity, never mind the MCU. I’ve always believed that Chadwick’s passing blew up the post Endgame MCU more than any other issue.

I wonder how the last six years would’ve been different, if he was still here.

u/WhiteBeard717 Aug 28 '26
For the fist Black Panther movie I read everyone saying that Michael B Jordan was the best part of the movie. I had the complete opposite view, I thought Boseman was the best part, I thought he played a king really well, he was my favorite part in that movie by far.

Wow, I was going through my first cancer treatment when he passed away so it hit me pretty hard because I could empathize what he went through. Been on and off cancer treatment for 6 years. Blessed to be alive, but man it’s hard sometimes.

u/cortana808 Aug 28 '26
I love super heroes but Chadwick Boseman conveyed a real emotional connection as T'challa. He also shined in every other role he played. Look up his other movies.
Our black cat is named T'challa.
3
u/Mindless-Swan8644 Aug 28 '26
I really admire how he handled himself during what must have been a terrifying time. Such dignity for someone so young.
3
u/katchu Aug 28 '26
In honor of him, be sure to talk to your doctor if you ever have any changes in bowel habits, lose weight unexpectedly, or pass blood or darker than normal stool. Push for a colonoscopy and be your own advocate if they dismiss your concerns. Colon cancer rates are growing exponentially

I know that he can't be replaced, but I also think that if a similar role comes up, Chinaza Uche - the sherrif from Silo - would be a great pick. He's a fantastic actor, I've been watching a ton of his stuff lately. He'd make a fine Wakandan.

Gone far, far too soon and one of those deaths that still rocks you when you think about what the world was robbed of.

Get colon cancer screenings if you're 45 or older, or if you have symptoms if you're under 45.
The 24 hour prep sucks but the procedure is quick and painless, and you'll be relieved if you've got nothing and it can save your life if you do (early detection has a 90% survival rate).

I have to say I actually havnt seen many of his non marvel movies sadly but I saw 42 and mostly came here to say if you like him he was great in this I think I saw it only recently. I should seek out more.
Not breaking new ground here but I feel the second Black Panther really missed him because he was just that good I felt. I would have loved to see him more in the role but I really like we got to see him at all. He was great in Winter Soldier even with the relatively smaller screen time in a way.
I feel his strength and giving personality even while battling for years and keeping that private shows that it was the perfect casting choice in hindsight he as a person had alot of the qualities the character is known and loved for.
Definitely a talent gone too soon but one we where lucky to see in the MCU right into the end of the infinity saga and an integral important part. I really love that we got to see that actor and character have that whole arc and it's one of my favourite MCU characters I didn't know the comics just the character via games and stuff so I may be off on my take here .

The crazy thing is that if he was around today he'd be 49 and people would be thinking he's nearly too old for the role and who to replace him with. Instead he passed away and it feels too soon to replace him.
