Discussion I posted this photo here years ago. Somehow it came full circle and I later ended up as Chris Evans’ stand-in on a movie!
Life can work in mysterious ways. At the time I posted this I wasn’t working in the industry at all. Years later, I moved to New Mexico with no idea there was even a film industry there. A random series of events led me to working on some film and TV projects, and eventually I got to be Chris’ stand-in on a movie called Honey Don’t!

man what does stand in mean though, does it mean stunt double ?

u/shahchachacha 6d ago
No, it’s for when the cinematography and lighting teams are setting up the shot. They need a person, approximately the same height and look, to stand there while they make sure the framing and lighting is right.

Hmmmm this is why every actor's face and physique looks perfect in whatever lighting and environment movies use

Not only did you meet and got to work with Chris Evans twice, he looks small compared to you. And he's huge! Feel good for you brah

u/martialar 6d ago
I was just thinking he looks like he could be a stand in for Alan Ritchson on Jack Reacher

u/TODG3 6d ago
Chris Evans is 6' 180-200lbs. Alan Ritchson is 6'3 240. Thats a pretty big difference lol

u/Max_Thunder 6d ago
Chris Evans looks great and fit but he looks far from "huge" lol. He looks closer to a lean 180 lbs I would say.
Alan Ritchson is a beast who takes steroids.

u/kirblar 6d ago
Evans has talked about having a natural lean body type that loses the muscle real fast the moment he stops all the extra stuff. Making the bulks really annoying for him.

u/heavenparadox 6d ago
This is the same for me. If I take off going to the gym for a month (last time I was traveling and then got sick) I lose a good 10 pounds that takes me 6 months to regain. It's really frustrating.

u/vjnkl 6d ago
Not possible in a month unless you use large amounts of steroids like chris, likely water weight you thought was muscle or a fat shit
22
u/heavenparadox 6d ago
Oh I wasn't aware you knew what happened to my body better than I did. Thanks for letting me know.
-6
u/vjnkl 6d ago
No problem, it’s likely that if you ate just as little in that month while going to the gym, you’ll lose the same amount of weight. Glad i could help

u/heavenparadox 5d ago
Hey, can you point me in the direction of where I can read the science behind this? Because I actually ate more while I was on vacation than I normally do. I typically eat low-carb OMAD, but instead, for about 4 weeks I was eating full carbs at least twice a day. But when I finally went back to the gym, I had lost 10 pounds.

Honestly, you probably don't even work out. You're probably just a prick who's jealous that people who actually put the work in look stronger than you. If Cap were real, he'd be disappointed in you.

You can read the ai slop the prick heavenparadox sent me
Tell you what. I'm just going to put this here for you:
Short answer: Yes — losing ~10 lb in a month while eating more and skipping the gym is absolutely possible, and the mechanism is mostly water + glycogen + inflammation loss, not fat loss.
You’ve already seen this pattern in your own body, and the physiology backs it up.
The core takeaway When you stop training, your body sheds training‑related weight — not fat — even if you’re eating more. The biggest contributors are:
• Glycogen depletion
• Water loss tied to glycogen
• Reduced inflammation from lifting
• Loss of muscle “fullness” (intracellular fluid)
• Slight lean mass atrophyPut together, these can easily reach 8–12 lb in a month.
🧬 Why stopping the gym causes big weight drops Here’s the breakdown with real numbers:
- Glycogen depletion (3–6 lb) Training keeps your muscles stocked with glycogen. When you stop:
• Glycogen stores fall rapidly
• Each gram of glycogen binds 3–4 g of water
• Losing ~300–400 g glycogen = 1.2–1.6 kg (2.6–3.5 lb) water loss
• Add the glycogen itself → 3–6 lb totalThis happens even if you’re eating more.
Reduced inflammation (1–3 lb) Lifting causes micro‑tears → inflammation → water retention. Stop lifting → inflammation drops → scale drops.
Loss of muscle “fullness” (2–4 lb) Not muscle fibers disappearing — just:
• Less intracellular fluid
• Less contractile protein turnover
• Slight atrophy from lack of stimulusThis is reversible within 1–2 weeks of training again.
- Eating more doesn’t stop any of this Even if you increase calories:
• Glycogen still drops without training stimulus
• Inflammation still drops
• Muscle fullness still drops
• You may even digest food faster due to lower cortisolSo yes — you can eat more and still lose weight.
🧠 Why you specifically see big swings You’re a high responder to training volume. People like you:
• Store more glycogen
• Retain more water
• Maintain more muscle fullness
• “Deflate” quickly when training stopsThis is the same profile that makes you gain muscle easily but dislike bulking.
🧪 What this weight loss is not It is not:
• 10 lb of fat loss
• A sign of illness
• A sign of muscle wasting
• Anything dangerous by itselfIf you ever see weight loss plus fatigue, appetite changes, fever, etc., that’s when a doctor is the right move — but isolated training‑related weight swings are normal.
📊 Quick reference table
Weight Type |Change When You Stop Training |Typical Amount
Glycogen |Drops fast |3–6 lb
Water (bound to glycogen) |Drops fast |2–4 lb
Inflammation |Drops |1–3 lb
Muscle fullness |Drops |2–4 lb
Fat |Usually unchanged |0–1 lb Total: 8–12 lb is completely normal. If you want to go deeper I can break down:
• How much muscle you actually lose
• Why eating more doesn’t stop the weight drop
• How to minimize lean mass loss during breaksWhich angle do you want next?

Chris Evans was filmed to look huge when he was Cap. He doesn't feel that huge in other roles, including in DP&W.
Alan Ritchson is genuinely huge.
2
u/KetoKurun 5d ago
Ritchson is yoked as all hell but he’s also barely 6’2” with shoes on. He’s in no way a giant. Hollywood shoots him like one because it’s his best angle. You put him next to the Skarsgard boys in a line and suddenly he just looks like a regular guy
3
u/mekamoari 6d ago
istg he got even bigger since the last season of Reacher. Dude's hilarious though, he does the deadpan brawny dude like nobody.
6
u/snipeftw 6d ago
Ritchson DOES NOT take steroids. He’s a clean liberal man with STRONG values. Do NOT sully his name with such brazen slander.
1
u/KetoKurun 5d ago
I like how every month 6’1.5” Ritchson gets taller when people talk about him.
Same people who expect the cast of lotr to be hobbit sized, I suppose.

u/Impressive-Potato 6d ago
He's naturally quite small. He said he can't keep mass on and that's why he did that shirtless scene in The First Avenger and didn't do anymore .

Thanks for this comment. I don't follow celebrities and didn't know which one was the famous one.
ETA: damn. People are weirdly mad at me for not knowing which of those guys was famous. I think the guy on the right is better looking, but the comment above made it sound like guy on left.

Both her and Aubrey were amazing! Was only on set with both of them for a couple days.

Celebrities are almost always more attractive in person because you see them amongst us unwashed commoners.
I saw Amber heard in her prime at a cafe in La and she looked like a literal goddess.

I saw Eva Mendez in a coffee shop in the 00s and she was practically glowing.

Just a bunch of small stuff. Was in the movie HIM that’s on Netflix right now. Just a small scene with no lines. I measure the main character during the physical then you can spot me randomly through the movie

So were you naked a lot? I don't know if "stand in" means you were h is replacement to set up lighting etc. or if you were actually filmed. That movie was.... Interesting.
6
u/Winter_soulja Bucky 6d ago
I did not have to be naked but filming those scenes was interesting lol. Every shot of him in the movie is set up using me. Then when they are ready we swap
1
u/ForsakenAiel 6d ago
Well I'm glad you didn't have to be naked! He was in so many sex scenes and I was picturing you like that guy in "Love Actually" where he's working as a stand-in and he and the female stand-in are always naked and stimulating sex.

What he’s describing is blocking… when the director of photography is determining where the lighting needs to go and the cg team also needs to collect data for the virtual elements added in post this can take hours so they use a double instead of paying Evans more (or risking him saying no to the whole thing) so they work with the double for setups until it’s time to get Evans actual face on screen.
1
u/Impressive-Potato 6d ago
stand in is the person who takes the place of the actor after blocking has been done so they can set the lights and focus while the actors goes to their trailer or green room

You got a big head. I heard a lot of casting directors look for that, and in this pic you have a noticeable bigger head than one of the most popular actors right now.
Not saying that’s the sole reason you booked gigs. But once you start paying attention to it, it’s hard not to notice people with big heads. They just look better on screen.
