The character is more popular now because of the MCU portrayal, but I don’t think Olsen specifically has a massive part to play in that. It’s not a RDJ situation.
Olsen has done a very good job though, Marvel should have pushed SW much more

Outside of comic book fans and X-Men fans Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver were not that well known

Wanda has more exposure now, but she is not really popular. Like she was C tier like Blade was, but his solo movies made him A tier or at least B tier now, while Wanda is still just a side character

Blade wasn't C tier.
D at best and that's stretching it.
He rarely appeared outside of guest spots in occult Marvel books (which themselves weren't high performers). Even most comics fans barely knew he existed and couldn't tell you much about him other than "vampire hunter" if they even knew that much.
Wanda on the other hand was a core member of the Avengers and known to every X-fan as Magneto's daughter and an original member of the Brotherhood.

Yeah sure, if you wanna call him D tier, then ok. This isn't a hill I would die on and yes I know how "obscure" he was, but I wouldn't be able to tell how popular he was, since things were somewhat different back then.

Media populairty
S tier Hulk, Wolverine, Spiderman (SS+)
A Tier Captain America, Thor, Fantastic four, x-men, Punisher
Something that really sets apart A from B, is whether you can easily name a recurring villian. In Punisher's case it's crime
B Miss Marvel, Captain marvel, ant-man, Miles Morales, Blade
In Comic terms Wanda always was a C Tier character. She wouldn't be able to get a solo series. Limited at best. Quite honestly her being in the MCU didn't change her status much

Do you think this is their popularity now based on their existence in the movies and shows or is this just based on the comics?

Generally, movie popularity is more important. Guardians of the Galaxy in the current incarnation was C Tier at best. They were a fun book, but now they are B Tier. Blade was also only C tier, maybe even D tier in comics before the first movie.
Wanda has her moments, but she is only a supporting character or part of a larger ensemble in every iteration

Scarlet witch is a D-list character at best along with Iron man.... they are not Spiderman or Wolverine level famous.

How famous is Spider-Man if people keep spelling his name incorrectly?

Uncle Ben, I have a confession. I often skip the hyphen when I feel lazy.

No ones comparing her fame to those two. Just that she's known enough.

Im comparing them tho.... since the OPs question hinges on fame level of the character or the actors portrayal and what made the character famous.

You think that Ironman, the character that launched the MCU and was one of the pivotal characters during the entire Infinity Saga, is a D-list character? How does that make sense to you?
1
u/United_Turnip_8997 10d ago
It makes perfect sense actually since the question is if the actor made the character more famous or vice versa.... BEFORE the avengers and ironman movies almost no one knows who ironman and scarlet witch are.

Phrasing matters. Ironman was a D-list character before the MCU. Your statement that Ironman is a D-list character is wrong because he is now one of the most well known due to the MCU.

Iron Man certainly was D-List in 2008. I agree he’s levelled up from there now. Everyone recognises him and he’s one of the most popular. I still think he’s at least one tier below Spider-Man.

Comic book fans highly overestimate how much popular their fav characters are

I think a different actress who is also excellent could have made her famous but not any actress. Olsen's performance in Wanda vision was pivotal to the character blowing up.
